I'm surprised no one has tried to make a bill cosby inspired sweater for the pyro.

Well...
Edit:
I've packed an item as a mod via itemtoast, it shows up in the loadout screen but when I jump in game it doesn't show up. Something I'm doing wrong?
I think you have to use the batch file right above it to launch it properly.
Running the batch file does nothing. A CMD window shows up for literally a split second, then vanishes.

Ona, have you tried running Source SDK and selecting Team Fortress 2? You should be able to use HLMV from the bin folder after you've done that
Yeah I'm pretty sure there's this magical order you have to run things to make it work. Install/run beta SDK tools, open source SDK, throw salt over your right shoulder, do the jumping jacks exactly 37 times, restart your computer, THEN you might be able to open HLMV. But once you get it working you don't have to do anything else.

Turns out the solution to my HLMV.exe problem was stupidly simple:
I found Gameinfo.txt, copied it, and pasted it in the Team Fortress 2/Bin folder.
Fuk.

does anyone have any other critique for the hat?
maybe just me, but if there was an eyeball in the bullet hole, the pun "I spy with my little eye" would work well as a title for it.

not really a pun nor a very good title.
even though this is a bad idea, "Eye Spy" would have at least made more sense with your comment.

Eh, we all have our thoughts. And yeah, I never even considered Eye Spy as a title.
Finally got off my ass and did some texturing.

I'd say the cosmetics are done, now. Although, Flubbman still wants to refine the hood, make it less blocky. Regardless, time to move on to the weapons.

the edges on that hood are pretty blocky, surely you have more polys to work with
and it looks like a solid piece of material, like the cloth that makes up the hood isn't effected by gravity

As I said, Flubbman says he wants to refine the hood, make it look a lot smother/more natural. But texture wise, it should be completed.
Has valve ever minded if you used parts of their default player models so things rigged/added perfectly when you create your model? Or is it safer to just re-create it as best as possible?
Edit: For instance, I modify a hat on one of the classes, remove pieces and give it a new texture etc, adding other pieces myself. Is that still not acceptable?
Helpful advice
So...how do you actually check which vertices are aligned to what?
The link isn't very helpful on that.
But thanks! I'm learning something ^^

using a modified version of the spy's torso to make a jacket is okay because they don't expect you to redo and rig his body from scratch, but a hat? i don't think so
Hmm people are requesting paint ability with my Festive Fool set. It would kind of look like shit with most colors. Should I make it paintable anyhow?

I don't see any reason why that set shouldn't be paintable personally

You could do it with different paint intensity for the red/pink parts so the whole thing is consistent in colour. And not just one of the two. Think thatd look better too

That was how I originally had paint set up on the Tres Chic, but I ended up scrapping it because the effect was way too different between different cans of paint: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/900111/scarf_paint.jpg
So just warning you it might not be as good an idea as it seems

I figured I'd just take the secondary color of the diamonds and trim and make that the paintable area. It would be a pretty quick update. Unfortunately I won't be able to update it until this evening. Thanks work.

More things with ribbons. I can't decide on base colours however.

You have some visible seams there, the texture also looks like it lacks an AO or its very subtle.
The model itself also could use a little bit more attention, are you willing to show wires and perhaps your UV's?
The idea is there but youre execution could use more attention and time.

I'm honestly not too good with both UVs and AOs.

I'd asked around for stuff to add onto it as well, but I didn't really get much of an answer.
Your edge flow could use work.
What this means is how your edges are placed and spaced out between each other. (Edges are the connections between Vertex points. Closed edges form a polygon and a bunch of polygons together make up your mesh/object)
For example you have a Donut shape around the engineers helmet right?
Your mesh looks like this:

Notice how the spacing between each edgeloop differs from one another.
What you want is to even that out

This will result in a cleaner looking mesh and thus a cleaner looking result.
If you take in account that you want clean and distortion free UV's if possible it's handy if you think about that whilst you're modelling and not an afterthought.
An example of a more tidy UV of your donut shape would be this:

Instead of this:

If you dont need to tweak a certain part of your mesh, dont do it. Likewise if it doesnt add anything significant to the shape of the mesh its also unnecessary.
For a ribbon like what youre making its better to have it looking clean and tidy, it's christmas after all
[editline]3rd December 2013[/editline]
Maybe another thing to take in account is whilst youre looking for reference and building up your model is to think of where the seams would be. or how it would be knit or woven.
The T-Shirt you're wearing also has seams where its sown together and an "edge" flow of how the fibers flow.
