perhaps model some parts of the belt to hide the suspender clips. otherwise it looks nice.

"I don't like it" is a criticism. It's hard to give good constructive feed back when, if we were working on it, we would scrap the idea. A bad idea with a good model and texture is still a bad idea.
In reference to your wrench, I just think the concept of a stick with some metal screwed onto it doesn't make any sense. Why a stick? If it's wood why have metal on it instead of making it all wood? I just don't plain like the idea.

i'm glad you mention that because i have something that is a show stopper in that department and i know it will get snapped up so i won't show the concept.. as for wood in general.

Whats the point in asking for criticism then? We give you criticism, but it just flies over your head. You totally ignore our suggestions and just do it anyway. Asking for feedback without using it and then asking for more is pretty irritating if you ask me.

Trying to get back into the groove, what was the instructions on making a UV straight and parallel? i recall it being something about marking edges, are you supposed to mark them sharp?

that's because you can't just cobble together a bunch of raw materials into a shape of a tool and say it's an improvised tool. why would a deep southerner american with 11 phd's make a custom blunt force weapon from flimsier and more exotic foreign materials than the original?
even your current model is ambiguously not a wrench. it'd have better chances as a pyro axe.
What do you mean?
check out the weight room warmer
the hoodie rests down on his back, but on yours it's sort of stiffened out so you can see it from the front
not that it looks bad, just something i noticed
irritating if you ask me.
believe me, its irritating for me to post things and get completely ignored or at best something that is suppose to be criticism or even a reply in some cases.. and if you say maybe its just you, well i'm glad you mention that because a lot of the other new users and some old tend to get the same treatment.
I'm glad we are getting this all out on the table, its good for growth and change.

well, valve makes the lore so i don't have the slight clue.. plus it seem like a good idea at the time and just imagine yourself with no wrench in hand back against the wall and a few bits and bobs laying around.

Try decompiling some in-game stuff to look at their models. Modeling your own stuff without having a reference on how it should be done will get you better at modeling eventually, but no where near as fast.

Word of advice in general, not just here. Don't get a big head. It tends to lead to conflict on these forums, which leads to no one liking you. Even if it is an amazing idea, be humble.

Don't take it personally. Random 13 year olds and russians will add workshop contributors on Steam and throw badly drawn notebook paper sketches at them. They'll pester about how to make items but won't put any effort into learning themselves. It gets annoying quick. If it's not something anybody is interested in chances are they won't say anything. Learning to be self aware and learn from examples is better than other people telling you what to do. If you do ask for advice ask about something specific, not just "Is this good"? People tend to reply more.

The character's traits are still pretty true. Would the character who builds complex machinery and prepares defenses ahead of time need to make a wrench out of sticks? Or is that something more along the lines of a half-insane soldier who befriends raccoons and talks to decapitated heads?
actually i realized that while making the base mesh and i want to explore it just can't really think of anything..
Don't force an idea. Mitch Hedburg said that he doesn't try to write his comedy routines, he tries to put his mind in a state where the jokes come naturally. While it's okay to try to think of an axe based around a stick, don't sit there and force yourself to churn out an idea.
Edit: I talk too much.
"I don't like it" is a criticism. It's hard to give good constructive feed back when, if we were working on it, we would scrap the idea. A bad idea with a good model and texture is still a bad idea.
To be fair, it's not especially constructive criticism. If you don't like the idea it is useful to tell people why so that they don't make the same mistakes again.

So I've been making backpack icons for stuff for a while now for personal use, I'm just gonna slap a few of 'em up here since I'm considering taking requests for mods you guys want icons forand stuff.
Note: Inasofar I've only really gotten to making weapon icons. I'm going to eventually figure out hat/misc icons one of these days, so don't let it mind you if you need a hat icon, I'll still do it... But not as soon as the weapon requests.

You've selected some verts from different parts.
Also a good tip is to unwrap it in a way so that the lines are already relatively straight. Its pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it.
I would unwrap the top part of the cylinder you're unwrapping, that way the other area of the cylinder comes out in a sorta of rectangle shape. That's how I do it, not sure about how others do.
