You've selected some verts from different parts.
Also a good tip is to unwrap it in a way so that the lines are already relatively straight. Its pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it.
I would unwrap the top part of the cylinder you're unwrapping, that way the other area of the cylinder comes out in a sorta of rectangle shape. That's how I do it, not sure about how others do.
that circle at the top left corner is the top of the "cylinder"
it's just a beanie type hat i made so i could work on my unwrapping, but it unwrapped in that "U" shape when i unwrapped
also "you selected verts from different parts" the vert of the cylinder is the same vert on those other things, so selecting 1 vert selects all the parts it's on. it's all built from 1 vert, there's no separate parts unfortunately (i'm not good at splitting meshes into parts)

It's a computer, not a magician, you have to do some of the work. Rotate the circle so that the highlighted verts look like an upside down V, then try. Also, looks like you have this toggled on:

Try turning it off, it won't select the verts in the smaller circle and strip.
In terms of unwrapping, you don't necessarily want to close up that seam. It'll cause the faces around it to warp a ton. I'd get rid of the seam you're trying to close, the one up the side of that large island. It'll unwrap it as a giant bullseye with more consistent faces and less warping with no seams.
I just authored a wall of text in the Vehicle Competition thread about unwrapping if you want to check that out.

Totally serious guys. Butts. I call it "The Big Reveal". Concepts are available for those who manage to stop laughing/crying at this attempt.
Those are some weird shaped butts.
[t]http://puu.sh/7AZIS.png[/t]
alright, one last question.
I think i have the gist of it down, and straightened out the bottom of the beanie
but how can i make it unwrap in more of a rectangle shape rather than a Slinky shape? not perfectly, it would just be a bit easier straightening one wrapped like a beaten up rectangle than it's current state
Those are some weird shaped butts.
Butts aren't meant to exist in only two dimensions. They must exist in a plane beyond the one they currently reside. Butts are eternal.

Put seams here.
[t]http://puu.sh/7B0nP.png[/t]
The unwrap, beautifully illustrated on the right, will be annoying to texture though. You'd have to line up the textures and lines across the seam, which is annoying as hell.
I can't tell, is that supposed to be a square bag for delivering pizzas? Keeping it vertical would be incredibly stupid as the pizza would flop down to the bottom.
Maybe it's the mini table in the box that keeps it from falling to the bottom

tl;dr: it was a concept done last year to ilustrate on how someone could make a backpack for the scout and hide the bits of the original backpack on its desing. at the time, it was meant to be part of a pizza delivery set, and i never bothered to change it, although i used the cooler as a reference(and that makes even less sense, gravity wise)
So I'm starting to get the basics of SFM. Hopefully I can start doing renders for people after a bit more practice. And also maybe not be such a freeloader when I need a render for my own stuff.

Oh, if the pistol actually did the slide action ingame. *Le sigh*
Actually I do have content.
Still looking for a texturer for this puppy.

Man I know... It was something on SFM's Steam Workshop by R234. His stuff was actually what inspired me to want to give SFM a go.
That image is incredibly jpeg'd.
I actually noticed this when I was embedding the image. Any way I can make it suck less? I used default settings when I saved the .png
Try saving as .png
Try saving as .png
But I did, though. It was saved as a .png
Did you do it via the Render option?
Guys, question.
What's the simplest way to make a pulsating texture, or better said have some parts on a texture pulsate?
Sine proxies in the vmt.
The Neon Annihilator uses those to make the sign pulsate if you want an in-game example.

I know. This one is a raw and when I made the icon itself I erased that bit. I'm lazy, but I'm not lazy enough to leave that white line in.

Even then everything but the crust would slop down to the bottom. It wouldn't bug me enough to keep on about it if it weren't the exactly wrong way to do it.

All that table looking thing does is keep the lid of the box from adhering to the melted cheese. It wouldn't keep the pizza suspended in place. And even if it did I can imagine the cheese/toppings would start to separate from the crust.
Now, I'm not telling you not to do it, If it's what you want to make then go for it. I'm just giving a reason why it might annoy other people or cause them to question it.

If you right click the viewport and go to render settings, turn off motion blur and crank up Depth of Field to minimize graininess of the picture
Also it looks like your render resolution might be low, you could set it to 1920x1080 or something larger for better results
The big things in making posters is Lighting, Posing and Camera Position. Just look up some tutorials on that. Posters are really easy once you get the groove down, Animations are trickier
Opened up the Soldier smd as usual, and...

The pistol slider works on sfm? I had no idea.
