How about make the back of the hat burnt and have the edges of the burn hole glow hot red?
I would love to have more weapons that are modified instruments, actually.
Gibbly and I actually conceptualized a flare gun mixed with a trumpet a while ago. Gibbly drew this, not me.

People tend to like the Asian characters on the maps in the form of those neon signs or embedded on weapons due to the fact they look artistic and creative.
Most people really couldnt care less what they actually mean. Its an inferior language as far as conveying information (what it means) is anyway. Which is why so many people get the wrong tattoo or draw the characters wrong. They identify with its 'looks' more than its actual purpose.
Honestly, I dont think we need any more asian-inspired theme miscs and items ingame. There are heaps of them. Heaps. If you have a creative idea, sure, go for it - but that single shot grenade launcher posted earlier looks more Nordic than 'Mongolian' or Eastern.
Especially when 'Highland' is often associated with Nordic cultures and European Barbarians.
A stereotype yes, but its the general idea that most people would immediately think of.
You could quite readily make that single-shot Grenade launcher appear like a Dragon-boat or Viking vessel.
Ship types, for names, include the Knarr, the Karve, Faering or generic 'Longship'.
Im just saying, my immediate thought was of Viking material, not 'Eastern', when you showed that picture of the launcher.
Hey Infected, can I add you to talk about the process of creating a concept art? Idk, but I want to take some tips, if you feel free to help.
Btw, hi Emporium. It's been a while.
You'll want to talk to Gibbly, hes the guy who does the concept art.
I just give him ideas sometimes :downs:
How about make the back of the hat burnt and have the edges of the burn hole glow hot red?
Who me? Because the hat is somewhat of a leftover when I was making my own race for a RPG I wanted to do.

He's not the only one, what about kibble? I would've also said me but I think I'm going to stop with concept art for a while.
Thats not what I meant. Gibbly and I work as a little group most of the time, and since Omni was asking cus of the picture I posted, I wanted to direct the attention to Gibbly, who actually drew it.
They identify with its 'looks' more than its actual purpose.
he shouldn't have used the simplified character then.
and it is still the equivalent of spelling words wrong like lighflock said. the game's made with localization files, it's meant for more than just english players. it can only help your item's chances of getting in if you get it right, even regardless of koth_king's mistakes.

Has anyone made this into a full weapon with textures yet? I know the branding iron, club etc have been done
I know the game is localized in different countries / regions, but my point still stands about the wider 'English-speaking' audience associating characters for their looks rather than their intended meaning.
Yes, it may be spelt incorrectly or drawn wrongly, which is a valid point. Im just saying what the majority on non-asian-speaking / understanding folk would think of it. Cant hurt to get it 'right', but a fair few people outside of that specific dialect / region wont notice.
Personally, I just inherently dont like Character-Based languages. Hieroglyphics. Chinese. Japanese. The thousand-and-one different sub divisions between dialects, simplified, traditional, mandarin, cantonense or god knows what else.
I studied Chinese back in school years for 6 years. 6 damn years. And I dont remember a single word, character or phrase. At all. It was just too pointlessly complicated. But thats off-topic.

The model would need to be updated. The one in the game files has a different UV from the SFM version, which has a complete texture

(Before you ask, the model is from the SFM Beta files)
How about make the back of the hat burnt and have the edges of the burn hole glow hot red?
That;s possible, but if i do that there'll still be a small glowing flame.
The only reason the flames on the bunsen brave, ring of fire and flamethrowers work is because they're tiny high pressure flames. Anything slower burning really needs particle effects, which you can't have. I think it's best to scrap the burning idea personally.

but i gotta do it b0ss
you could always be smarter and play with the idea of it being already burned.

I'm Chinese and I'm offended.
If that's the case, English is also an inferior language. While you take 10 letter to write lollipop, we Chinese just need to use 3 characters to write it out.
Also, stupid people who gets tattoos of another language and doesn't know what it means doesn't only exist in white men. Some Chinese people also get tattoos in English but they don't know the meaning of the word.
Also, 6 years of Chinese learning and YOU couldn't remember a SINGLE FUCKING word? Are you stupid or mentally retarded?
Don't forget, English was based off from the German language.

That's a pretty stupid argument. And slightly offensive.

i don't usually say this type of stuff? but can you guys stop bitching about languages, yes they insult you but at the end of the day they are just another random internet person.
I've been encouraged/recommended/called lazy unless stated otherwise to make my own textures for my medigun model (by using AO maps and multiply - layer of colours in Photoshop - no idea if I do this for weapons or just hats), still needs some clean-up, but I'll need some opinions on it before I apply 'paint' daubs and test it in game.

Dumb Summer idea
Skirt, ribbon and belt buckle are 1 item. Shirt collar, cuffs and socks are another. Skirt band would probably be paintable.
