There is literally no difference between these two thumbnails, except for one is missing a hat. I find workshop submissions like these kinda frustrating, because it makes me think that the item isn't good enough to be showcased by itself.

If you check the submissions, you'll find that they do have standalone images of the cosmetics.

Speaking of misleading thumbnails, here's something that's been on the front page for the past few days that bothers me so much.

Not saying the item is bad. The set's a cool concept (even though I don't think it fits so well in TF2) but that's not the point.
It's the thumbnail that bothers me. It doesn't stand out very much, when you glance over the first page it's just a gray fog with a thick orange line down the middle.
Please don't take this as an insult, I just had to point it out.

Which is a shame, because the item all by itself is great, as shown in the images of the item. It could totally appear on a thumbnail all by itself and it would be just fine. With an explosion in the background for extra coolness points.

new space concept coming in the next couple minutes.
So, I've made a quick concept drawing in Paint of a wrench idea I had recently. Don't have a good name for it, and my concept might be of no help whatsoever, but I think you can get the idea of what I'm going for with this:

quick ingame test using the shitty base textures
quick note about the source engine and how it handles normals
you will likely need to flip the green channel of your normal maps if it appears to be shaded incorrectly
can't quite remember the specifics but if you bake straight in xnormal/blender/maya, chances are it's incorrect, I'm pretty sure 3DSmax is fine since it bakes an inverted green by default iirc
if I'm correct that means some of if not all the neo teufort series 1 items all have incorrect normals

the only really bad tuefort item normal is the medics, and i think its just from a poor bake rather than flipped normals.
