http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Spine-chilling_skull this is possibly the best example on why using a different paint shade is bad
but the skull itself is oddly modelled and more detailed than the standards so it's weird anyways
but the skull itself is oddly modelled and more detailed than the standards so it's weird anyways
oh so it's okay to have shitty paint coz it's a shitty item anyway :rolleye:
it's annoying when you're trying to maintain the same shade throughout 3 items it's also annoying how nearly 10 different paint cans look exactly the same
But what's the point in trying to maintain the same shade for your items if the items look ugly in that shade?
i'd say desaturated paint can work when done correctly [t]http://puu.sh/9e43w/0967f9a554.png[/t] it's not too desaturated, but it's just enough it doesnt look plastic
But what's the point in trying to maintain the same shade for your items if the items look ugly in that shade?
I don't think the model's quality nor anyone's personal tastes has anything to do with this just keep it consistent. People buy the paint can and they expect to see what's exactly in the can on their item.

That's why I said "too desaturated" not "don't desaturate your paint at all ever".

Okay here's a bit of range on some of the more extreme paints. It goes from pretty desaturated to full saturation to somewhere inbetween. Personally, I like the 'somewhere inbetween' [T]http://i.imgur.com/t1vqSx0.jpg[/T]

(this is more noticeable on the colors on the right than lime/gold/pink) if you're going to put paint on it, do it right without funny business. you cant do it like the fast learner until we get styles

i usually don't pay enough attention to these things to go to the workshop page and vote but a. those renders are really cool and b. that name is really good so i'll vote! good job!

Hey, does anyone know if I can manually set the LOD ranges in the importer? I'm trying to do it similar to my QC file, but it doesn't seem to be working correctly. My item requires a very specific LOD range.
Does anyone have any models that need texturing (before you go assuming things let me explain). for one, i don't actually want to get included in workshop submissions (i may ask for this much further in the future) "then why?" you may ask. Well, i want to practice texturing but on well unwrapped models. The reason I say this is because i cannot model that decently and my unwrapping is terrible. So i basically want to practice on an unwrap that isn't done by myself. Has anyone got a model that i can practice on?

It looks awesome
cool grad stuff
I'm pretty sure you can just input all the files in the importer and gold star it as an all class item, unless I'm missing something
Hey, does anyone know if I can manually set the LOD ranges in the importer? I'm trying to do it similar to my QC file, but it doesn't seem to be working correctly. My item requires a very specific LOD range.
You can do that actually, even though I don't think you're supposed to. change this:
<ITEMTEST_REPLACE_LOD1_HEADER> { replacemodel "<ITEMTEST_REPLACE_LOD0>" "<ITEMTEST_REPLACE_LOD1>" } <ITEMTEST_REPLACE_LOD2_HEADER> { replacemodel "<ITEMTEST_REPLACE_LOD0>" "<ITEMTEST_REPLACE_LOD2>" }
with:
$lod X { replacemodel "lod_example.dmx" "lod_example_lod1.dmx" } $lod Y { replacemodel "lod_example.dmx" "lod_example_lod2.dmx" }
Now it is important to have the file names consistant. The item name in the top left the has to be the same name as your lod0 file and lod 1 and 2 have to be that name with _lod1/2 behind it, as well as the .dmx in the script. Because the importer converts it to .dmx files. Now when you click preview it will say failed to compile, because it saves preview as a different name, but when you click verify it should work.
they specifically said they won't add items if you do that in the update where they added support for editing LOD qc blocks

Though considering there are items already that expose them, both Valve and community made, perhaps that's a non-issue.
