Holy crap, you guys are amazing. I hope you guys don't mind if I include some of these in my guide, and I'll definitely be linking each image to its respective workshop submission that was accepted to ensure to give proper credit. If you know of any more, keep them coming; I can never have too many examples.
I've done my best with being accommodating to all friend requests, but since my Pyroponics Chamber hit the top of the workshop this last week, friend requests have been pouring in a lot more with people saying "maek my super kewl item plox". Rather than attempting to explain to them the concept of concept art one-by-one, I'm making a guide to illustrate the importance and give them the resources so they don't continue their ridiculous behavior of adding workshop artists by random, only to be shot down because they don't know better.
When I'm done, I'll post the guide here so other workshop artists can link to it when they get unsolicited requests to make items.

A quad should automatically become two tris ingame. SMDs will be triangulated on export for sure but fuck knows what happens with DMX files when compiled.
