Those of you dissing the FaN, it's got it's uses. I can use it on 2fort to jump up through the grate in the entrance to a base. That helps when they have the courtyard loaded with sentries.
<all his posts WHINE WHINE WHINE>
There is nothing you can do about it. VALVe won't remove The Sandman from Team Fortress 2, get over it.
I honestly think it was perfect when it came out. The concept sounded so cool, it was fun to use, and easy to dodge from the recieving end. It wasn't the UNPOSSIBLE TO BEAT GOD OF TEAM FORTRESS like everyone said.
Can't fight crits. If you get hit by a crit Rocket, you're dead. Same time to dodge as a Ball, too.
This is exactly why I hate crits. Guaranteed to get a kill and cap the point, and then the game decides to shit on me because some retard got lucky while spamming in my general direction.
There is nothing you can do about it. VALVe won't remove The Sandman from Team Fortress 2, get over it.
Yeah, but they've done a pretty good job of nerfing it into oblivion, so I'm happy with that. And just because it's in the game doesn't mean I have to like it. [editline]01:26PM[/editline]
Yes, because I can totally rely on my scattergun giving me a crit and every pellet hitting the Medic that's never 2 feet from me, compared to the ball which I can launch over a greater distance with a fairly high accuracy, and which, for some utterly bizarre reason, crits like a motherfucker.
You're relying on luck either way, which was my point. Also, dumb ratings are just saying that you disagree but can't actually refute my arguments.
Personally I only thought the Sandman was most obnoxious when they used team-work to take me out: One would stun and then odds are another team-mate would stab/bomb/crocket/FaN/saw/etc. me to death (I'm practically a career Heavy so dodging is out of the question more often than not), so stun-time wasn't relevant, neither was the damage reduction with all the firepower they'd unleash upon me.
Jump spinning is generally how I dodge the brunt of anoying projectiles. Huntsman arrows, sandman balls, crockets, crit stickies/nades, flares, etc.
Though personally, I'd much rather them nerf the FaN than the Sandman. I'm tired of being grazed by one pellet and going on a trip, destination 50ft. in THAT direction. And being pretty much insta-killed as certain classes from 25 ft. away wasn't fun, either. (maybe they could increase the spread and make knock-back depend on how many pellets actually strike home?)
Oh god yes.
next nerf:the sandman's secondary fire will now do 1 damage, won't stun and.....that's it oh and it will remove 100hp,remove the double jump and make you 50% slower seriously though i think they regret making the sandman they keep making more and more useless... [editline]03:07AM[/editline] the fan needs nerfing though
Jump spinning is generally how I dodge the brunt of anoying projectiles. Huntsman arrows, sandman balls, crockets, crit stickies/nades, flares, etc.
My problem wasn't bum-rush Scouts, it was sneaky bastard ninja Scouts that move out of normal sight range and bean me on the noggin while I'm "In The Zone", aka shooting the Pryo, Demoman, and Soldier that I encountered around the corner and would've been able to take out just fine were it not for Babe Ruth over there.
the person you hit still can't fight back, and as a scout you can just catch up to them anyway when they run add to it that the damage reduction has been removed, so killing fleeing players is even EASIER, it just requires a little more aim once you hit them if you can't get kills with the sandman now then it's not the weapon's fault, you just suck period. [editline]06:39AM[/editline] also nobody seems to realize that ball stuns no matter where it hits you you don't need good aim to use it and it's not really easy to dodge
FaN is a piece of shit. Only assholes and scrubs use it.
but when i am using scattergun i get pwned by all FaN scouts, so if i want to survive i use the FaN. i need boxes for my box fort.
Blame competitive dicks who want the game to be their way, while leaving the game it's meant to be played be given flawed unlockables.
Blame competitive dicks who want the game to be their way, while letting the game as it's meant to be played be given flawed unlockables.
I don't know how you blame the sandman on competitive players. This is the fault of every single idiot who complained about the sandman. Competitive players are an easy scapegoat on facepunch, it seems. :bandwagon: I did all I could for your grammar.
The sandman isn't exactly underpowered. It's just that people don't use it effectively, its absolutely a support weapon rather than an offense or defense weapon. Example: Once I stunned a Engineer fixing his shit. Since he was stunned he couldn't do anything to help his sentry. My Team pushed forward and we won.
Once I was a heavy and I destroyed a sentry and we won because I was on the cart killing the whole enemy team.
Sandman should be like this IMO: Should not stun ubers, Should make it slower to swing than the bat(about %15), Should take away 25-15 health, Should just stun with no damage cuts/boosts, Should have lower crit rate/not crit. If any1 disagrees just tell me what you think it should be like. NOTE: NotPigeon's posts will be ignored, so don't bother replying.
Here's my take. Valve should just admit they fucked up on the sandman and remove it permanently.
Once I was a heavy and I destroyed a sentry and we won because I was on the cart killing the whole enemy team.
A heavy dies under concentrated fire, just like a sentry. If your team can't muster that, though, for whatever reason, a stunned engie can make it easy for pretty much anyone to kill his sentry. Likewise, a stunned heavy can't muster up the firepower to suppress all the incoming fire. It's goddamn annoying, but it is useful.
Here's my take. Valve should just admit they fucked up on the sandman and remove it permanently.
As much as I would love Valve if they did this, I know they're gonna leave their shit in.
Idiots are idiots

Engy nests are easy to kill, stunning them only makes them easier.
Right now I'm thinking they should have done something better for the scout, something that improves his strong points and does something to his weak ones. Pyros for example: they gave him a flare gun because his weak point was not having a long range weapon, and gave him a Backburner (wich actually sucks) to improve ambushing enemies. They gave different cloaking options for the Spy, a closer range weapon for the Sniper and it goes that way. But take a look at Bonk!: it doesn't make the Scout faster, it doesn't make his dodging abilities better(a sentry/airblasting pyro can still blast him away and get him stuck, wich is stupid considering that in theory he's not getting hit) FaN: shooting in mid-air will make you look like a retard and send you flying back, usually dying or taking fall damage, wich many times take away your mobility. It's power is compensated by the fact that it has only 2 shots. Sandman: was bad and is getting worse.
IMO Valve did the scout update perfectly. Scout is an asshole. People who main scout, are assholes. VALVe decided to make Scouts even more assholes, so they gave them a bullshit stun weapon, the pain in the ass Fan, which makes it even harder for pyros to kill fucking scouts, and the bonk, I don't know how it's annoying to other players, but it is. EDIT: Sarcasm, boxers.
Yet killing FaN scouts is easier than other classes with other unlockables.
I can do the same thing as a demo or a soldier. Engy nests are easy to kill, stunning them only makes them easier.
Engy nests with team support are far from easy to kill, trying to take out that sentry without an uber while he has 2 teammates covering him is nigh impossible... unless for some reason he's unable to repair/already in a bad spot.
I fucking hated the Sandman nerfs. I was a Scout player since Day 1, I loved the bat, and just generally loved playing the class, and when I saw the Sandman, I nearly shit myself, because I thought it would be a great unlock. When I got it, I fucking loved it. Then it got nerfed the first time, doing less damage. "Okay" I thought, "I can still work with this, I just have to stun them for long enough, get some good hits in, then run away. No big deal." That worked for a while, until the next nerf came. No more stunning ubercharges. "Uh... what?" Was the first thought that came to mind. I still used it, but noticed after a while, it was nearly worthless. Now, today, you have to get maximum range in order to stun someone. Needless to say, I don't use the sandman anymore. :smith:
No more annoying people with the sandman :(
I loved the sandman from day 1, even when everyone was screaming about how terrible it was. Godspeed, my friend. You were taken too soon. R.I.P. The Sandman February 2009-December 2009 We always thought you were invincible. :smith:
The thing I hate most about Sandman, is that if I get "stunned," any teammates around me won't care so long as the scout doesn't attack them. Other than that, I'm just glad that competitive leagues ban them. It's nice not to have to worry.
Blame competitive dicks who want the game to be their way, while leaving the game it's meant to be played be given flawed unlockables.
the whole concept of stunning in this game is flawed to begin with getting control completely taken away so all you can do is watch as you die is just frustrating, now you can have some control over your fate and the weapon takes some more skill to use people are just complaining about this change because their easy button is harder to use
It's times like this when you wish Valve would stop listening to thier fans & say "Screw you!" Also, imho I think the Sandman should be like this: Have no health reduction Get rid of the double jump Restore the stun times Make it so that at the minimum stun range people can still run away, but the longer the range, the slower the player is allowed to move until eventually they can't move at all. Maybe have it half the maximum range before they can't move. Keep the disadvantage of it not being able to stun ubers, since it makes it all the more rewarding when you actually manage to stun an uber (& yes I've managed to do this after the nerf!)
I don't see anyone use it now, just a waste of an unlock now
