A while ago, Gabe said they were working on a 15-minute TF2 SFM short.
Then they left some breadcrumbs. We're guessing that means bread, but since you can't make a 15 minute video about bread it's probably a giant monster bread with tentacles.

Holy shit it actually works. I joined an MVM server I know that has pinion enabled, and it let me skip right through the forced wait time. (it still said I had to wait, but it let me move around change class with no problems)

That's why I shut my server down. I couldn't afford to keep doing it myself, and I had no customers because valve keeps sending them to pinion filled shit banks. Most retards I mean players now a days do not actually realize what the fuck browse servers actually does.
I really don't get why Valve isn't doing anything about pinion, its completly intrusive and quite destroys the experience.
If I was a new player giving a try at TF2 and almost every server I joined had adds which make me wait 20-30 seconds before I am able to play I would most likley stop playing this piece of crap.
Even as an "old player" sometimes I don't like to bother with fave servers because I want to play a specific map, so I go on the servers list and join any random server, BAM! fucking pinion.
I didn't try, but does disabling the MOTD get rid of the pinion ads?

Not ususally, it stops you from viewing them but still makes you wait.
Disabling HTML motds is like the first thing anyone should do.

The concept of getting a little extra cash off of ad revenue, whether you can afford to support the server or not, is an alluring prospect for anybody even if it's not motivated by greed. I seriously doubt most of the smaller server providers or people with a single server really make much money off of pinion but for a lot of them I'd imagine shaving off a fraction of the monthly/yearly hosting cost is an enticing concept, especially if they don't play on them often and experience the wait for themselves or simply don't perceive pinion as that much of a nuisance to players.
Although then again I'm just speculating so I could very well be wrong.

My personal favorite is when they come up between rounds and completely waste valuable setup time.
