If I was to make a short, and I have wanted to do so for so long, I have in mind to have the prettiest scenery backgrounds, effects, best visuals possible, best action.
But "Lil' Guardian Pyro" just proves me wrong, they didn't have to spend too much time on visuals (aside from the puppets rigs and animation, particles) and it shows us how you can make something extremely compelling without fancy graphics, its really the story, the score and the pacing that make this short the best.
It just takes the cake on this year Saxxies so far.
I just noticed how the past winner and future winner both involve an inanimate object getting more animated and likable characteristics.
Take notes, future SFM winners.
Edit: and what BANG said, both involve simple plots executed amazingly. They lack the particle spectacle of say, Bad Medicine and Crackpot, but they have good pacing and tell an entertaining story (albeit I liked Bad Medicine better, but that was just my opinion).

I'd be pretty pissed off if the entry was disqualified just because Harry (who only did sound? Cobalt is telling me that he did almost all of the animations) wanted to make money off of it...

The link in the description for voting is only 4:53, and has no ads. I believe it is the director's version as someone posted above.
