He's the most full of himself
Soldier's too crazy, Pyro's too unknown (despite sometimes showing up in the spotlight), Demoman is drunk and uses explosives (too overpowered for "hero" material), Heavy is often shown as a hero but otherwise he's pretty slow, most Engineers don't venture out of their nest to be a hero, Medics (besides often being cast as a villain due to his unethical medical procedures as well as, to put it prejudicly, he might have been a nazi) require a partner unless Battle Medic, and he still has his coat which identifies as a doctor (helper) rather than a hero, Sniper is far too laid back to do anything heroic, and Spy is secret-agent-dick.

Regrettably I can't give you a source, but Valve has stated that Medic was never a Nazi - the reason being that's too easy of a way to make him seem evil. In fact, it's far more likely that he is Jewish, based on his pronunciation of Danke Schoen, and the general klesmery feeling of "Archimedes".
Also, Demoman is best character - He's drunk, you don't have an excuse. And swords.

Keyword might. The idea was always surrounding him, with, if nothing else, some ties to the Holocaust, not that he would tell anyone.
Demoman, like I said, is explosives based, and works best as a guardian knight, military police, or random drunk rather than super hero.

I really don't buy the 'Not a Nazi' story about Medic. Medic is so obviously the 1960s Nazisploitation stereotype with any offensive imagery removed and the 'goofy yet scarily insane' archetype exaggerated, as with every TF2 character - I mean, he wears a Stahlhelm (the M40 pattern, too, WW1 stahlhelms had much larger flares and skirts, and it doesn't have the mounting lugs on the side) which is such an icon of Nazi Germany, the Team Captain is more than slightly reminiscent of a German officer's cap, and he wears the M43 Einheitsmütze in the form of the Medic's Mountain Cap. Also, he had a medical license. Assuming he's in his late 40s-early 50s, he would have had to have been a member of the Nazi party to have studied medicine in Germany.
I think Valve have just said he isn't a Nazi so they don't alienate the fanbase who aren't quite as interested in it as I am. There'd probably be some uproar from Germany and Austria should it be revealed that he was a Nazi after all, and it's quite a heavy thing to say considering the relatively light tone of the game.
Just because Medic wears those items doesn't make him those things.

Well, yes, but the Soldier wears those things because he thinks they make him look like an impressive soldier, because of the deep-rooted fear he has that someone will find out he actually isn't. Why would Medic wear a Wehrmacht field cap? Is he a reenactor?
