I don't actively seek them out, but I don't really mind TF2 drama videos when I happen to run across the good ones. I mean in all honesty, I did enjoy this one a little bit and found the idea interesting. I suppose I still don't take them [I]seriously[/I] since, as you said, more often than not they just don't mesh with the canon very well (especially the ones that resort to using assets from more realistically-styled games), but they can be fun to watch.
However, what kept me from really enjoying this video in particular was the fact that it was SniperxFem Scout. The age difference between them makes the whole thing just a tad too creepy for me. But hey, that's just my personal preference I guess. :B

Having a drama based around TF2 is like trying to put two north ends of a magnet together.
It doesn't want to come together, yet its forced to do so anyway. It would make a better satire/parody of a drama more than anything else, which is what I think of when I watch these.
Drama can be done really well in TF2, look at the previous Saxxy's, its just romance that is absolute shit 100% of the time

Because in the minds of the people who make these sorts of videos: fem Pyro wears a mask so she can't make out; fem Heavy is too tall, fat, and old; fem Engie is too short, fat, and old; fem Medic, Sniper, and Spy are just too old; and fem Soldier and Demo don't exist (not to mention they'd be too old, plus fem Demo would be too black). Also, fem Scout is clearly ten bajillion times better than the other fems just because she's fem [I]Scout[/I], bestest class evurrrr.

They work. the issue is how shoehorned the big names are. They use awful conflicting artstyle textures and rely on slow motion and pretending characters we know the full personality of are now emo vampires.

Honestly last years Saxxy Drama winner was not very good at all. just hitting the randomize face button a couple of times in gmod isn't a great way of making art
make a real looking face, move those shoulders up and maybe change that bullet hole if you want to make your thing better looking

tf2 media is tf2 media. it might be great or awfully bad, but its media anyway. worst case scenario is that i'll get rated dumb and people will move on - and if an argument rises from said piece of media, well, as long as we're all civil i dont see why we can discuss about it.
on topic though, as punchy said TF2 drama can be done and be done well - problem is that is needs to stay within tf2's context. after all, tf2 characters do have their own backgrounds and live a life of death and mindless destruction. if you try to punch your own alternate universe within tf2 and mix both, you basically get deviantart-grade fanfiction storytelling.
plus bellydancer lives off the shitty hype that angst kids generate on youtube. she hasn't bothered to improve any of the flaws that are [U]PAINFUL[/U] to watch. that video was almost as bad if not worse than her saxxy entry, but oh boy do i dare to criticize it and get shitstormed by angry fanboys, if not right away called a hater and get blocked.
