It'd be pretty badass if scout wasn't established as a child-sized man who can barely fight without a gun or bat, is established to be very weak and does not have black eyepaint and generally doesn't take things seriously but rather likes to treat everything like a game.

This is why people criticize so harshly, you're forcing things that make no sense and it's silly. Don't assume your opinion is correct there's a reason it's called an opinion.
