For randumb videos like the slowed down expiration date stuff he doesn't get paid, but for bigger SFM projects (like probably this one) he gets paid.

It doesn't really look like a "big" SFM project.
Looks like an average video of his, but with a little less random screaming. Though there's still a fairly big portion of "lolrandom" scenes.
I wonder why the people who organize these events always ask this guy for trailers? Surely there's SFM users who are willing to create actual quality work for this kind of stuff.
My guess would be because they know he has a lot of viewers and they're younger players and they want to draw them to the competitive scene.

It's probably due to the fact he'll actually do it if anything.

I can only assume most other big names are busy with industry jobs and smaller names don't fit the right vibe for it.
Remember, all of facepunch could completely hate the guy but he still effectively panders to majority of the tf2 community which isn't reflected by facepunch.
Plus it's safe to assume he already has connections with some of these people so they go to him first as opposed to somebody like callegos who might not have any prior connections with said people

This applies to everyone and everything. ALWAYS keep things in their own universe and artstyle, UNLESS you can magically pull it off.
