As long as you buy this and cancel the subscription you get all the items right
You have to shovel over 50 bucks though.
Well, that's about it for me. Don't know if I can take much more shit.
Anyone want a rant?
Goddamit I hate looking at how fucked a once beautiful game was.
You want to know something tearjerking? I was at my school library, and to my surprise, there was a book about the Art of Video Games. They had examples of the most beautiful art styles, and the most beautiful games.
Team Fortress 2 was there. In it's 2007 state. No Max heads. No Brain Suckers. No bronze medals, or parasites, no ugly lime green paint, god.
And I know everyone says there'll never be a vanilla mode, and the sad thing is that's true. I wonder if anyone at Valve or the TF2 team is actually dissapointed in what TF2 is today.
Hell, most hats are just advertisements now.
I'm looking at you MNC
This jaratees me off more than anything. The Monday Night Combat hat is literally the worst.
It's just the Logo on a Hat.
Honestly. TF2 is just a fucking advertisement for other games, and pisses me off to no avail.
I don't why I still bother with TF2. Honestly, I dunno if it's cause I'm just playing different games or stuff, but I'm honestly losing all interest.
I came to TF2 because it was visually appealing, it was a well balanced shooter, and it was very funny.
But now it's a Horrendous commercial for other games, with ridicilous weapons in term of design and gameplay, and the comedy has been turned into "lololol australians have moustaches, lololol I wear 3 hats, lololol I hit you with a fish"
You want a rant? You should have seen the e-mail I sent off to Robin. If enough people want to see it, then I may just edit it in here. While I wait for a decision. it's a 10 paragraph mini-essay about what they have done wrong with the game, how it has disappointed me and how they are forgetting their true fan base.

It's more of a stern talking to, being British and what not blind, flying rages are hard to pull off when talking to authority figures :v: let the games begin:

Dear Robin,
I hope you take the time to read this. I certainly would if I were you anyway, as it is something you might find interesting.
Team Fortress 2, one of the most revolutionary online shooters I have played in years, so revolutionary in fact that blockbuster titles like Call of Duty still manage to pail in comparison with their yearly release schedule. The game was a fresh, amazing experience when I first purchased the Orange Box. You do not understand the pain I felt when I realized it was the only game of 5 that my PC struggled to play. The day I finally scrounged the money for a new GPU I was ecstatic to play the game, and my god the wait was worth it.
Never before had I seen a game that takes it self so lightly, and just makes a mockery of stereotypes. The art style was so simple, yet so perfect, the game was so finely balanced, the maps were (for the most part) varied and interesting. I don't think I wanted to stop playing for months. Academics got in the way of that mind you.
Your team were possible the most down to earth guys (and possibly at least one girl) I had ever seen in game development, you were involved, you gave us content, you cared. Something many a game developer has failed to do. Your first bunch of class updates, the singular ones, were a nice touch, they changed the way Medics, heavies and Pyros worked to make them more effective after the community thought they had them worked out. They made the game fun again.
Your next batch, again, changed how the game worked, the classes still had defined roles and jobs, but they could still work differently. I would probably say it was after the Solider vs. Demo WAR update I started to feel less appreciative of these updates mind you. The introduction of cosmetic items was originally a nice touch, everything fitted, it worked well, it looked nice. But this was your downfall I'm afraid.
Hats caused the community, as a collective to devolve into a moronic mess. People became elitist over them (understand due to rarity mind you). People stopped playing the game because of them. It was just a mess. Then your team started adding more hats, and more, and then some more. But none of these were right, they looked wrong, they didn't fit the game at all, they didn't even make sense to the character (Dr. Dappers Topper is a great example, it is a awful hat for a Soldier, no matter how disturbed he may be). The hats were gaudy and just a pain to look at.
I was okay with this at first, the game art style was there at its core I guess. It was just a pain to see it being destroyed like this. Then the weapons started suffering the effect of not-care-itis. Classes stopped having as defined roles, it made it hard to counter classes effectively, made multiple classes overpowered. It began to actually ruin the game play for a while. Your balance patches fixed this mind you, but it was still a pain. But then your team started with the promotional items, and I am sorry to say, but you really should have not even started with them. Almost every single one does not fit the game, they all look wrong in some way. It just seems like a really bad way to get a game to sell more. I don't blame you for exploiting the predictability of TF2 players (look at your store, it's done so well as people care too much about cosmetics in a game about shooting people).
I have one biting question. What is Gods name gave your team the bright idea to add unusual hats to this game? There is nothing, nothing at all, good about them. They are a waste of GPU processing time, their effects are ugly and pointless. Going through your developers commentary reminds me so much of when your team still cared about the art style, the minimalism and the feel of the game. All your recent additions have defecated on those beliefs, you haven't even had the kind heartedness to give the players a option to disable things like hats and particles effects we don't want to see or care about.
I guess I could sum this up for you. But TF2 has become a chore to play now. it's hard to play a game where you don't know what a player might be using, when you were so used to a very fine tuned balance. Where classes such as Medic have become so useless due to almost every class having their own methods of healing. The art style is gone, it is in tatters. I still enjoy playing the game from time to time, your in house maps are of a amazing quality and playability, the same cannot be said for most of the community maps you add.
If you did read this. Thank you Robin for your time. I hope you consider what I have said, there is an entire player base you have been neglecting out there. All we ask is for some recognition that you still care.
Yours sincerely,

Who the fuck gives a shit about 3 cosmetic items when they buy a game worth 50 bucks and some subscribtion time?
If someone actually does that, just for the three items, someone has to go to the valve office and slap both gabe and robin across their dicks and tell them to stop. :frown:
Well said.
had to paste that into a wordpad because reading that left to right makes my eyes hurt
Please post.

He isn't in work right now I assume, so it will be buried under a pile of "LOl gimm3 h4Tzz" emails.

Yeah sorry about that.
tags are awful for word wrapping.
:bravo:
Very good. got the point across, and in my opinion, summarized why it's shit very well.
Oh, and please post on SPUF to cause Rage from all the little Valve defenders.
Good rant, but in all honesty, the part about Unusuals seemed a little harsh.
Nonetheless, I doubt he read it once he knew what it was turning into...
Very nice letter, hex. Took the words out of everyone's mouths I'm sure.
ohoho, excellent idea. SPUF deserve thine almighty opinion.
I will summarize every response
"troll"
"loser stop paying attention to hats and play the game"
"shut up the art style is fine, the game is perfect"
"don't complain about free updates"
"YOUR OPINION IS WRONG"
I think SPUF might be indoctrinated by Robin Walker.
Someone photoshop Robin Walker's head on Sovereign. I could see that coming in handy.
So SPUF goes from being idiots for bitching about everything to now being idiots for defending everything
As usual, the sight of promotional items turns SPUF into an uproar.

Don't worry, this game will fail to sell well anyway, then Valve will see that they cannot push their community around anymore with hats... I hope.
The game looks like shit :)

I don't see this is as bad.
I love that the community realizes they're being fucked around with here.
Someone pointed out, with each shitty promo update, more and more people start to complain about Promo items.
Take a note valve.

I'm in there somewhere :D
As am I.
I should've known I would've been drowned out, but hey, I hope someone takes note of how much complaining comes with each Promo update.

Valve doesn't give a shit.
This is Soldier Medals and Max's Head promotion all over again.
The only way this could get worse is if the items were to have new stats (I know they don't, but god damn.)

So much drama.
As usual.

They partly do.
Valve knew that if they gave them the default melee stats, people wouldn't want to use them, so in order to rake in more cash, they made them skins of Axtinguisher and Boston Basher.
I do know what you refer to, though.
Still, I don't get it, I see it this way.
VALVe are working on updates. Developer comes along and asks for stupid crap. VALVe makes stupid crap and puts it in the game. Then VALVe go back to working on their horrid hat updates.
It's not like VALVe deleted their update progress to make the stupid crap, I am annoyed that half of them don't fit the art-style, but VALVe showed they don't care about the art-style when they pissed all over it's corpse with some of the newer hats.

To be honest, If I had the choice I'd rather use a bat reskin than a Boston Basher reskin. The Boston Basher is just worthless.

The soldier medal drama only existed cause people didn't get them, and SPUF, like an angry 5 year old, needs every G.I Joe or else the collection isn't complete.
And the Soldier medals were just generally great. Cute items that fit the game's style that make great cosmetics. This is all over items for a 50-60 dollar game MMO that don't even fit the game's style.

To be honest, I was fine with not getting one, but the major time difference meant I had no idea this was happening until my smug friends were laughing about it in my face.

I use the bat(Well, the fish...) myself. But, since Boston Basher is new, they probably can't conclude yet how porpular it is. The Axtinguisher however, they 90% did with money on their mind.
