Just make sure your monitor is up to spec.
When doing it with the tinted glasses you don't need a fancy monitor.
Edit:
For Strikebango

I got the iZ3D drivers for that.
Is 3D any good in games ?
I tried it in a few games and the only times it looks really cool are when there's a big contrast between foreground and background stuff. Like in Fallout 3 when you have your Pipboy in front of your face, it looks really cool in 3D.
so what exactly is needed other than the iZ3D drivers? if all I need to do is order some $15 glasses and download some drivers I'd be willing to try it...if I need a fancy monitor then that's another story.
how do the iZ3D drivers compare to nVidia's 3D vision? I'd like to try that but those glasses are expensive as hell and you need a 120Hz monitor =X

If you want the cheap way, just download the drivers and find some red/cyan or amber/blue 3d glasses. The only other way is to buy their $350 monitor that comes with 2 of their types of polarized glasses. That's more similar to the defaults for NVidia 3DVision. When using the colored glasses, iZ3D works much better, because I remember spending a good 2 hours trying to get it working in L4D, but with this you boot it up and go through the wizard and you're good to go.
TL;DR: If you don't wanna spend oodles of cash for a new monitor, download iZ3D and find some old 3D glasses.
The driver works great on Episode Two.
By the way, this technology has been around since the 70s!
The real 3D is where you use real glasses, not 2 shitty colors mixed together.

Well some of us like 3D but don't wanna shell out at least $350 for a monitor with a 700:1 contrast ratio.
I don't like the 3D fad. :| I went to see avatar 3D and came home with a headache. Turns out it's common with people who have glasses/eyesight issues.

I've had glasses for over 10 years and have overall pretty bad vision but don't get headaches from it. Not even from the Toy Story 1 + 2 double feature.

Lucky you :/

I think it's actually within my budget to buy that $350 monitor, I get paid in a week and I expect to have around $600 to spare.
now how much of a toll should I expect my performance to take? I current have an i5 750 setup with a 5770 and 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. I assume the iZ3D can do at least 1680x1050, which is my current resolution, the game runs pretty well with that, but I don't know how much extra processing it takes for the 3D effects.

Stereoscopic 3D literally cuts your FPS in half, because your computer has to render each frame twice; one frame for the left eye, and one frame for the right eye.

Depending on which monitor you decide to get, you might want to adjust your resolution. I recommend your new monitor's native resolution. Remember: the higher the resolution, the lower the performance, and the higher the quality, and vice-versa.
I played L4D2 in 3D and it was a treat.
Opening the Steam overlay was awesome, because it seemed to hover in front of the game.
I heard there be soon Screens with 3D but you dont need any 3d glasses.
I think the new nintendo handheld comes with this doesnt it?
Half Life 2 worked great when playing it in 3D.

So it's canon then? :v:

Yeah, they're called parallax barrier screens, and the Nintendo 3DS uses one.

I'm one of the whatever % that can't see 3D effects very well. It makes little or no difference to me.
