My main class is pyro, and I use the flaregun and normal axe. I can't tell you how many eyelander demos I've dominated. It's simple, as he charges at you start shooting fire. As soon as you see him light up airblast him away and hit him with a flare. Then rush at him with the axe, it should be even easier for you since you use the axetinguisher. Or if you want to make sure that you're going to get the kill use your flamethrower. As for those grenades, well the A and D keys are your friends.
PRoblem I have with nades is when you're indoors.
Outdoors you can dodge easy, but indoors they bounce around everywhere, or block off your escape.

Not at once, though.
The heavy can't slow enemies down and shoot them with the regular minigun at the same time while eating his sandwich to heal himself.
He CAN do all that stuff, but he can't do it one life. He has to give up stickies to charge faster than the scout, he has to give up a bit of his health, and be a total monster in melee combat to get the health/speed buff from the eyelander.

I have almost never been in a situation as pyro in which the axtinguisher was less useful than the default axe.

Having just recently started to use it seriously, I can say without a doubt that you have no idea what you're talking about.
charge is just so fucking easy to dodge
pyro can airblast him to hell
classes like pyro have shotguns and flare guns what can easily kill him if he changes to pipebomb (untill the victim is too dumb to know how to dodge)
heavies can kill him before he can fire 3 pipe bombs , or even hurt them 100 hp
soldiers can eat them for breakfast
210 hp buff gives him only 10 hp more than soldier one , he has still lesser hp than heavy , and after 4 heads he no more get's buffs
medics and other classes can melee them to death (especially soldier with equalizer)
the speed does not matter because he still can be killed by range weapons
engies now can be happy because alot of demomans use charge , not stickies
so , how the fuck he is overpowered
I'm using Shield + Sword and the normal grenade launcher.
Gotta say I love Demoman class. I use the charge when I'm >90% positive I'm gonna hit something or I just use it to escape from a tougher situation.
Other than that I just shoot explosives and hit shit if they get too close. Also I love the pyros coming at me shooting flames and I just 2hit them. And grab a healthpack.

But, I've found Scouts with Force-A-Nature pretty hard. I can't get close enough, plus the Pushback from their weapon. So if lucky I shot blow them up with a lucky (more or less) shot with the main weapon.
