I wouldn't use his extension, as he hasn't included the source code for it which you are required to do as per the SourceMod license. He's also been told on AlliedMods to not release his extension without the source code (and also because Valve will break more SourcePawn stuff if they catch wind of this), so he's decided instead to release things here. inb4 he gets banned on AlliedMods for violating their license.
Happy now?
I didn't upload source, because I was in a hurry to get this over with, I didn't feel like wasting time making a zip file and uploading it, and see for yourself, no malware.
I made this months ago, and TF2 been dead to me for a few years, I just play on occasion with friends, the game is 7 years old, so many of you care way too much about what valve thinks about 3D models in an old (dead) game, people need to stop worrying about a fake virtual hat 3D model given by SourceMod instead of a company which doesn't even do anything anymore most of the time, valve is a game company which doesn't make games and instead lets their community make 3D models to get them most of their money, so stop worrying and just get over it, use valve's useless promo items for all I care, they deserve it.
This is probably my last TF2 related project, and just wait, valve might not even patch it, my old method can still work, and it's been around for almost a year.
Oh believe us when we say that they will. TF2 despite being old and in a state of decay as of late, still generates a decent amount of revenue for them. Hell it's still ranked 3rd on the steam stats for top currently played games.
And we know how abusive these community servers are because they've been trying everything possible to trick the quickplay system into sending them as much traffic as possible. It's why Valve instead of fixing the issue decided to just force quickplay to search for Valve servers by default. But even then, these abusive servers are still clinging around, hell even Skial is starting to make a recovery from the blow that they recieved from this change.
And that honestly concerns me because these communities are leaching off the community and shoving adverts in peoples faces at every single chance they can get. Despite Valve laying down some firm rules, they still do this and despite their previous actions, they don't care. They only think about the quick buck in the short term prospect and if they find this, they'll view it as such and won't hesitate to abuse it.
These communities even made people hate ad services like Pinion and Motdgd to the point where they make black listers and scripts to counter them. Punishing on legitimate servers that are using these services, just to get by. Like myself I use ads as my prime source of income because there's no where else to get it. And I honestly want to continue working on the mod that I've been working on for the past year because modding TF2 to me, is incredibly fun, bending how the game works to whatever you desire, creating new life and interest in the game rather than just sucking the life out of it and injecting poison in return.
But whats done is done, lets just hope no one ever posts this on alliedmods, where these abusive communities only seem to look, because if they find this, it's going to spread like wildfire followed by a lotus swarm.

Already posted a link to this yesterday in a new thread. Suggestion was made to file a DMCA claim to have the downloads removed to prevent any damage this plugin may cause. Excerpt of the license was posted stating that even if Xykon releases the extension here on Facepunch without the source, he can get banned from AlliedModders because their license includes not releasing the source on other sites. He has released the source code, so that's no longer an issue.
My thread ended up being deleted (not moved to the Trash section, outright deleted). I'm seriously debating on whether or not I want to be "the guy" who sends a link to this thread and plugin to Eric S. of Valve. Mainly because I don't know what Valve would break in order to prevent this plugin from working.
Also, not only could unscrupulous server owners abuse this stuff to get their shitty servers (looking at you NighTeam/Saigns/Skial, your donator benefits are fucking shit as are your servers and most of your admins) back on Quickplay, but they can also make incredibly simple modifications to it to recreate those godawful fake unusual hat plugins for their donators, where the donators could choose any hat in the game and wear it as any class, and then choose any unusual effect and apply it to the hat and it would be visible to other players. That's why Valve broke this shit in the first place. People making money off of fake unusual hats, instead of Valve making money off of keys and crates.
Why anyone would think repairing this plugin and publicly releasing it (after Valve publicly stated they fucking don't want this working) is a good idea is beyond me. You'd have to have some kind of mental deficiency to think that this can only end well.
(I don't mean to use "mental deficiency" in a negative way. I'm not poking fun at people with mental issues. I'm honestly just a tad miffed at this bullshit fucking plugin being publicly released for the 2nd time this year despite quite a lot of outcry from the AlliedModders community. That's why Xykon has that custom title here on Facepunch. More than likely, even though he had good intentions when releasing this plugin, he's going to end up fucking SourceMod over big time.)

Valve skims FP, it's way more likely than you think someone on the team has already seen it and is postponing action until they see it being used abusively.

Just let it be and nothing will happen, really. Any community owner who really wanted this for their servers could've easily already gotten it a long time ago.
The reason valve broke attachables originally was because servers charged money to allow hats already in the game to be equipped without the player owning them. This plugin was never intended for that, it even comes with a bunch of custom hats to use.
Hell, a lot of communities even offer custom hats as donator benefits still and have been since they started and Valve's obviously fine with that as they haven't acted on it.

1. Despite the plugins intentions, anyone can modify it. If I was unscrupulous, I could modify this plugin right now and turn it into a fake unusual hat plugin. It's not hard to do.
2. The reason why attachables was broke originally was due to fake Unusual hats combined with servers charging real money in exchange for the ability to not only equip official hats but also custom player models made by people like Rebbacus. Needless to say, people (such as Rebbacus) did not like that people were making money off of their work. As for the fake unusual hats, well, servers allowed players to equip any hat on any class (i.e. Scout with Texas Ten-Gallon, the classic example) and then further made things worse by going "hey let's offer unusual effects". Valve caught wind of all that shit and put a stop to it.
3. Yes, custom hats and player models are used as donator benefits, though for the most part creators of custom player models openly state "not to be used as a donator benefit" or "not to be used as a way to gain profit". Some content creators are open to being asked for permission to use their model as a donator benefit. Valve is ok with custom player models because they added in the custom player model functions in response to the Sourcemod community asking for it. It was requested because of plugins like VS Saxton Hale which were broken by the serverside attachment patch.
4. An earlier version of this plugin that was "fixed" was released and contained checks that made sure you couldn't use existing hat .MDL files in the plugin. Obviously, as everyone knew would happen, people just started editing the plugin and removing the checks so they could once again be unscrupulous.
You can try to twist things and make it seem like this plugin being out there isn't hurting anything, but trust me, it's going to eventually. There's always people requesting "unusual hat effect" plugins on AlliedMods and all of their requests are instantly met with a stern "no". If any of those people who made those requests discovered this plugin, they could very easily fulfill their own request (provided they know the SourcePawn language) or contact a private plugin developer and get the developer to modify it for them in exchange for cash.
Also,
I’ll forward your email to the rest of the TF2 team. Thanks.

Fuckin' right we should. And there's obviously something wrong when a person is being chastised/mocked/what-have-you for doing the right thing in order to prevent future fuckery.

Then again, I am posting on a message board that happens to reside in Bizarro World where up is down, red is blue and doing the right thing is somehow dumb.

I'd rather not drag this thread off-topic. If you'd be so kind, please redirect all smart-ass remarks to my inbox via private messaging.
I fail to see a reason to panic over a potential misuse of the mod. It isn't currently being misused, and even if it ever begins to be, valve would easily hear complaints and have it dealt with then. I play on a few servers that use the mod to let players equip non-game items (majoras mask, etc) and the idea of punishing people who use it responsibly because "someone might wear a fake unusual if they found this mod 11 months from now" sounds like an idea from someone who feels it's their responsibility to kill fun and be valves teachers pet.
Wait, can someone elaborate on the history of TF2 modding for me? I played around when NightTeam servers were many, and custom servers often promoted unusual hats. What happened since then? Why did Valve supposedly disable that stuff? Sorry I just didn't know such a huge event happened

As with everything in life
"cause of money"
Some servers have a donator system, and sometimes the owners of those servers do things. Instead of giving you custom cosmetics that just attach to you, some instead give you the item (temporary and only on that server) like the Saxxy, or the golden wrenches, Unusual hats and custom character models that creators of those models would stated to not be used for a profit.
Valve to rectify that problem patched that such things cant happen, but some servers due to this update have returned do doing such thing (I'm using Skial and I play on their saxton hale servers) where players can once again have golden wrenches, saxxies and fake unusuals.
With this being fixed again people fear valve will once again have to patch the game which would greatly affect mod/community game modes to the point of making said game modes no longer useable.

Such punishments should only affect those who abuse it, and not the entire community as a whole.
I don't think valve would consider the consequences for the community. They make the wrong descisions, not the modders.
Valve has the right and the ability to take a whole row of servers down, so it'd be a much safer solution to target only those who abuse it.

Or instead they can come in and just be the angry Saxton and wreck everything.
I honestly hope that if they make changes, it only affects the servers in the quickplay system. Like being in the quickplay means that you cannot load any addons. That'd really break servers like Skial with their bots and quickplay manipulation.
I've used that exploit for visible items long before MasterXykon released it here.
But i guess i'il remove it from my community servers for a while since exploit is now public i don't want to be blamed or accounted as one of abusers after xykon's release and i don't want to cause harm to tf2 modifications either...

Same here, except I never publicly released it...
I should explain further: In the email I sent to Eric S, while I did mention the slight possibility of "fake unusual hat" plugins, the major thing I touched on was the possibility of other included plugins being potentially used by unscrupulous server owners to re-interject their servers into the Quickplay system.
For example, the owner of NighTeam servers could potentially make modifications to the FillUserInfo stuff (if memory serves me correct, it's the FillUserInfo natives) and get their servers back on Quickplay.
Now, I'm not 100% sure on this, which is why I sent the email off to Eric in the first place, along with the link to this thread, as I'd prefer the TF Team take a look at the plugins Xykon released and make sure that nothing like what I described above is possible and/or patch those potential exploits.
As for anyone still running this plugin with good intentions, keep running it. Unless you're using it for things like fake unusual hats, I doubt Valve would really care.
And hey, I'll admit that I've downloaded everything Xykon has released, as it is a wealth of SourcePawn knowledge that I can use in future projects.
Well, this has been fun, so who's ready for another meaningless project?
Fake Player Count / Fake MaxPlayers / Fake Map Name / Override Tags / More??

No. None of those. Why do you keep going for the projects that have the potential to make Valve further break SourceMod?

You already have done enough by fixing something that could potentially break tf2 modding, it's an interesting project, but releasing it publicly was dangerous and almost stupid, but still excusable, I guess.
But now, if you're going further in things that anger valve, after all this, excuse my language, you are officially an ass****.

The game is more popular than its release years, dead isn't really the right term.
Unless you mean update wise, because major update season doesnt kick in until halloween.
