I'm willing to bet money that they'll release specific crafting recipes and crank the drop rate up for the items when Shogun is released.
Until then, you'll just have to idle (which didn't work out for me) or try your luck (which cost me a gigantic chunk of my items because I have shit luck).
GreenMarine said they'd be tradable after the preorder, so I'm guessing they'll be specifically craftable too.

When they did Valve updates, people whined the community couldn't affect the game.
When they released the polycount pack, people whined it sucked.
When they released this Shogun pack which is a bit of a mixture of the two, you keep complaining.
For fucks sake if you hate it so much stop playing.
There's always going to be something for people to complain about.
Valve could release that one, big dream pack we've all been waiting for. Optimizes the game so that it plays flawlessly on lower ends, so much that it even manages to run on toasters (it's just THAT optimized.) Getting rid of all silly unfitting weapons and hats, refunding anyone who bought them. And added more updates that were as quality as the official updates.
People will still find [B][I][U]something[/U][/I][/B] to complain about.

The silly and unfitting items are my favorites because, well, they're silly and unfitting. Pyros running around with bright pink plungers on their heads? Medics with girly hair, turning teammates into pincushions with magic healing arrows? Jars of piss flying all over the damn place? A Demoman with neon green hair that is inexplicably circled by a giant heart?
That shit's hilarious, and I wouldn't want to have it any other way.

I'm probably extremely late with this, but has anyone else noticed that since this last update, the game takes WAY longer to disconnect from a sever? (at least the first time you do). Before it was a few seconds of looping audio as it unloaded whatever content it needed to, but now it's more like 10-15 seconds before you finish disconnecting.
My friend told me his was doing this and I just figured it was his shit PC which always does that kind of crap randomly, but sure enough, I got home, updated my game, and it was doing the same damn thing.
Pretty bloody annoying, and on a few occasions now it's cost me a spot in a server. It takes so long to disconnect from one to join another now that by the time it starts loading, I've lost the slot that opened up. Argh.

Honestly those crazy, silly weapons sort of 'make' the game for me. They're so weird you wouldn't see a normal mercenary use them. A jar of piss, a piss-shooting sniper rifle, holding a grenade to whack people with, a jar of 'milk', a jackhammer, a garden rake. The list goes on, but I still find these weapons enjoyable because they're totally different.

The game is fun but if you don't see why people are annoyed with valve for raping the original art style then maybe you're a part of the problem.
The way i see it, valve is adding this crap to keep the majority of the fanbase happy, since most people don't give a shit if tf2 has a horrible visual style. But there are people out there. People like me, who remember back with TF2 had a solid art style. I wish they'd add a convar or something for TF2 classic mode where all this promotional bullshit gets disabled.
