These shots are likely from a Valve-provided press kit. One such press kit for L4D1 managed to leak onto the internet a while back, it was nice.
I looked into it and found what appears to be the source site
for example
http://img.gfx.no/358/358633/TOBOXpcSCRNtf2Trailer06.jpg
is from
http://www.gamer.no/artikler/klart_for_team_fortress_2-beta/43284
edit :
this page has a decent amount of tf2 screens under the "Bilder fra spillet" slider
http://www.gamer.no/spill/half-life-2-orange-box-windows/47422
edit :
actually pretty much all of them seem to be from this one
(only ingame, no concept art, most are already in the thread)
Firebeast: interesting, i casually check the thread for updates and see people have even written tools for it
Firebeast: amazing
Firebeast: everyone seems a tad behind in some info i didnt bother saying
Firebeast: no its not the image host for a game review site, its a shared host for many sites including said site
Firebeast: go far enough and you find photos of washing machines, graphics cards, music covers, movie posters, movie stills and even random photos
Firebeast: and yes most of it is visible on sites/google images/whatever
Firebeast: the interesting part is some of it isnt used anywhere and is of higher quality than anywhere else (such as the high res background)
Firebeast: and that most of it seems pretty untouched straight from whoever they got the images from so no watermarks, quality is generally high and some still have the original metadata giving dates to things that previously did not
Firebeast: some stupidly high res images of other games on there i can say that
404: post that on there then
Firebeast: and if anyone wanted to search for files by their modify date metadata then i got that covered
Firebeast: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/59316980/gfx_stamp.txt
And yes, upon checking it out, Zemaskedman posted several pictures that are also present on that game review site. The only difference is the one on the game review site have the standard VALVe watermark, whereas the ones on this directory that Zemaskedman posted lack that watermark. So Firebeast is correct when he speaks of the watermarks and metadata.

There's two instances of 374819
Just modify the "819". Leave the 374 bits alone. There are a lot of empty #'s with no pictures.
You could also try one of the tools posted in this thread like: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1421519&p=45850550&viewfull=1#post45850550
Or this link: http://www.fuckingright.com/grab/index.html?http://img.gfx.no/374/374[800-850]/i_374[800-850].jpg
You can modify the values in that link. I forget who it was who linked me to that on Steam but a big thank you to that person.
i'd say its the storage of some gaming review site.
also, someone better find a high-res version of the artwork used when connecting to a server, so we can make a vpk with it and replace the existing one.
You mean the stamp map thing? I have a mod that replaces it with an HD version, shown here:

It's located in materials/vgui/stamp_map_background. And download link is here:

At least I think that's what you mean?

He meant this:
http://img.gfx.no/374/374835/i_374835.jpg
[t]http://img.gfx.no/374/374835/i_374835.jpg[/t]
It's huge!
EDIT: Wait no I'm dumb, he meant the current artwork. I'm not sure if there's higher res versions out there...

That's actually just a file edit that adds a flag to make the game not generate and use lower LODs for it. Which Valve has already applied to the file themselves making that fix redundant now.
And some nice images of old 2fort:

I thought these would make nice tf2 menu backgrounds but their tallness makes them somewhat pixelated when I use them. Still pretty nice though.
374734 to 374760 is HL2 pics
374763 to 374778 is Portal pics
374783 to 374899 (i think?) is TF2 pics
Too many to list, great find
