In light of Scream Fortress 2014, what was the worst update?

Oh god, I remember being harrassed by random friend requests from people trying to get my Max head off me for two years. "Not for trade" apparently means "try harder", not "stop talking to me."
I don't agree that robotic boogaloo was the worst update per say, at least it didn't have to, and I blame Valve.
I wasn't even registered here and lurked every once in a while to what they were up to, and besides the reskin hats the guys of the community also wanted to give us improved robot models with bodygroups and better compatibility for hats, new MvM missions and some original-no-reskin robotic hats, along with the comic. When it was announced it was becoming a community update, I got hyped, but all that they delivered were the reskin hats.
At first I was like "wtf, where are the original hats? Well, at least they improved MvM with models and hats on the robots- OH WAIT, THEY CUT THAT TOO!". It was Valve decision to give us only that: Hats. A possibly good update turned in nothing more than a test for the item importer (really, Valve asked those guys to add all those hats as a test). And we haven't got much besides hats since then.
Also, the comic was non-canon, which was a bummer. I know that time-traveling Engy and robots selling hats were a bit too much, but I liked how Demoman was like "By God, it has been one year already and Gray Mann won't stop!" in the comic, because it showed the passage of time and how endless the robot menace was. I wish they had taken that route and showed how time was passing during that period and how the mercs were reacting to their endless fight.

Also, the worst update were the Saxxies 2k14. I didn't know it was happening until it was over already. It wasn't truly an update, but... Do you guys remember the majestosity of Saxxies 2012? What happened to that feeling?

Saxxies this year left me very numb; many of the entries submitted and the few nominated/won entries certainly didn't have much imaginative pizzazz and just felt like scripted junk with expected fan-service treats. The vote period just came and went. Hell, I loved the DOTA 2 entries much more than the other tf2 entries, but I applaud the effort of the jewel heist and the race entry (the non short one)

Smissmas 2013 can be summed up by just this picture. It was lazy. So lazy, in fact, their banner for the update was a workshop item promo.
It didn't add things, it removed things. The most notable parts of the update were the unbalancing of the Conch and Diamondback, and turning the Short Circuit from one of the worst weapons in the game to one that made Soldier and Demo mains legit take breaks from the game as a whole.
And if one compares it to 2012 through 2010, those added weapons, maps, and tours. This update just gave us a bundle of items that takes 10 minutes to design.
I completely agreed with you until I reached the end of your post. What a shitty thing to say.

Though the whole Short Circuit buff controversy overshadowed the rest of the update for a lot of people, what disappointed me the most was seeing a great many folks on various TF2 forums (so basically people who care enough about the game to register and discuss about it) be so infatuated by a new set of Festive weapons and the unboxing-for-Strange-Festives-fever that they pretty much didn't care for a lack of anything else bar more cosmetics and some questionable balance changes.
I really thought to myself ''Wow, has it come this far? Everyone drooling over some festive weapon reskins and only worrying about whether they'll uncrate a S. F. version of a weapon, and pretty much openly stating that they don't care about a lack of new maps/weapons/modes/relevant gameplay features?''.
But I guess that the TF2 Team spent a heck of a lot of time on the Two Cities update so they didn't have much development time for a major Smissmas update. At least they could have made a proper update page and throw in a community map or two and maybe a few free non-Festive reskins or something to make it seem like more than just a glorified patch.

I think you misunderstood me. I didn't mean any of the cosmetics. I meant that gift bundle with the tags and expander and giftapult. Actually I really liked the cosmetics and even the festives added in the update. Nice cosmetics don't make a update though. Just look at the most recent update.
am i the only one who didn't completely hate robotic boogaloo?

History repeats itself. I know it's backwards, but that's most likely why SF6 was lackluster, because of all the work they're probably (hopefully) putting into SpyvEngy.
Sissmas 2013
SF4
Robotic Boogalo
Scout Update
The Robotic Boogalo was the most dissappointing.

The only good thing was the fact that it was 100% community-made, which means we a lot for future updates. Not just updates made by Valve but also ones made by the community. (such as the End of the Line update).
Scream Fortress 2014.
Sticky launcher nerf revert :v:
Kewl guys use Scottish resistance!
Medic update.
It began all these years of suffering from other updates, eventually making TF2 free.
mannconomy update easily. destroyed what was once a fantastic game =(

How?
How?
some people would argue changing the weapon unlock system from one based on achievements to a random drop/store based system was a polarizing decision/update.

There's also still people that think hats ruined TF2. And also the Halo event caused some people to quit the game, as dumb as that sounds.
"Waaaahhhh, I'll never have hats I quit"
"Oh I'll textmode idle for hats, nothing fishy about this at all"
"Waaaahhhh, I'll never have halo I quit"
Someone, somewhere, is still mad over not getting a Halo.

Way to show how new you are. Everyone knows the September 20, 2007 patch killed TF2.

No localization files update. Those really were the dark days of tf2
I miss the background maps, I never really got to experience them myself but I saw them a while ago on my brother's Xbox copy and it looked really cool :(

Apologies, but what are/were background maps?
Apologies, but what are/were background maps?
basically the title screen was like HL2 or Portal and it showed one of the maps (Dustbowl) instead of a flat picture

THAT IS FUCKING COOL
*ejem*
Why Valve stop using such an amazing feature? Did they have to spawn bots every single time the game boots up?
It's on consoles so they can preload models in the game but it was removed from pc for what's probably performance reasons

You can actually load the dustbowl background map through console (I can't remember the name of it through, but it's in the default map folder so you just find the one with the unusual name). I has a basic version of the final point of dust bowl and some giant versions of some of the props like the supply cabinets behind where the camera would be.

Add "map_background MAPNAME" to the autoexec.cfg file and you will get this feature :)
