Is that sarcastic?
Gonna bring this thread back from the dead being as we have a new comic, even though I know there isn't much plot advancement involved. That said...
I think the Administrator's full name is Elizabeth Hellen. Given what we saw in the new comic regarding Saxton Hale's complete inability to remember names, it would make sense that he considered her important enough to try to remember her name, but simply paid more attention to her surname (Hellen) rather than her forename (Elizabeth).

That blanked-out surname looks to be about 2 characters longer than Senator Grey, too...
:tinfoil:
EDIT: I know that's not how the forename 'Helen' is spelt, but they're pronounced in essentially the same fashion.
kinda sad this thread died after seven pages
Not much Lore wise going on.
We can talk about Ms. Pauling's sexual identity.
Or when the Gun Mettle comic and Expiration date take place, assumedly before Mann Co. gets taken over.
Expiration Date seems to be post-MoM. Heck, it looks like the canon end to the TF2 story the way its going.
Gun Mettle looks to be pre-expiration date. I'd say Pre-MvM, since the contracts are all around killing humans.
Which makes me want a MvM contract.

The reds are driving away from getting the intelligence from the blus. This looks pretty much like they're still in the gravel wars. Don't really understand what events would lead you to believe it's the end of the TF2 story, the comics are taking that on.
Well you see I meant to type Gun Mettle instead of Expiration Date.
But you know
I've got the incompetence.
I like to think that some of the hats unique to each class have some reason/backstory behind why each class would wear them.
One of my favorite reasons why Scout would dress like a Milkman is so he can dress 'incognito' around Teufort to search for Blu activity. Same could be said about Demoman dressing like Aladdin/a Pirate/a Knight, Sniper dressing like a Crocodile Hunter/Arabian, or Heavy dressing like a Native American.
I'd love it if there actually was a TF2 movie about RED team going undercover to try and bust a BLU organization working downtown.

Most of these costumes aren't exactly related with the Story of TF2 - instead, they are more like backstory motives for the characters - we all know that the Scout is a homeboy from Boston - he has probably worked as a Milkman before.
The Demoman, as seen in the Soldier VS Demoman Comic, is tight with the Family tradition - he also lives in a castle in Scotland.
The sniper is more of a hired gunman - the Crocodile hunter set marks the fact that he comes from Australia & / or marks some of his experience in jungle warfare - The arabian set refers to desert warfare (making him the best choice for the role of a sniper)
Heavy being a Native american isn't something I'd consider - it's probably just a custom hat without any context, because - him wearing an American hat? He's a god-damn cold russian!
But... that's just my thought about costumes being part of the story.
The only cosmetics (That I can think of right now) that are part of the lore are the Robo-hats.

The robo-hat comic isn't canon. Though, there are cosmetics that are canon, like the robot costume. I'm under the assumption that anything that isn't totally out there like the bird heads, or a promotional item, is canon to some degree.
also heavy has the stereotypical native american hat because he's interested in american pop culture iirc

It's possibly a joke about how Russia was flooded by American culture after the fall of the Soviet Union IRL, though I might be stretching it a bit since that would make more sense if it were an 80s getup.

It's still the 50s - Soviet Union hasn't even reached it's golden age.

It's the 70s as of Ring of Fired. But frankly the in universe date doesn't mean much when it comes to cosmetics and their references considering there are things that refer to TV shows from the last 20 years.
So with the newest comic (Contract) Hale said that "he is fairly sure 4 of them cant read".
So which 4 is it?

I thought about it, but I think he's just guessing that they can't read, and doesn't have any proof.
According to some of the other comics, his statement is wrong, but I'm pretty sure he means Scout, Soldier, Pyro, and Demoman.
Someone on reddit went bit by bit and showed evidence of each class being literate.
The only one that's dubious is Soldier.

scout has read law books. sober demoman can definitely read, no doubt about that.
the only ones i see not being able to read are soldier, pyro and drunk demoman.

So who is the 4th merc who cant read?
I would say it may indeed be the Scout. In the "Unhappy returns" comic he is reading a book called "Ghost D.A. young readers edition" which might mean he is learning to read.
Another candidate is Heavy, he lived some time in a gulag. I dont think they learn reading there. After they escaped, they went to live in a mountain home. And i still dont think the Heavy was thought to read in there either.
have we considered the fact that maybe it was saxton hale just being a douche

Heavy has a PHD in Russian literature.
Sniper can't read because he has very poor eyesight, this is why he uses a scope on his weapons so he can see the target.
Maybe he can't read English?

In my opinion only person unable to read is pyro. World seen by pyro seams to be devoid of letters, heck it seams it lacks any actual language even.
Scout is proven that is able to read.
Soldier...no clue. Maybe, who knows.
Demo-man seams all right guy if away from battlefield and one of the most sane of them all.
Heavy might have some issues with reading English.
Engineer. No need to explain.
Medic. May have some issues with English but I doubt it.
Spy No comment
Sniper He was able to read instructions included to the jarate pills.
So I guess pyro is only solid choice.
Heavy has a PhD in Russian literature, so probably not, unless they mean illiterate in the Roman alphabet or something.
It was probably just a throwaway gag they didn't really think about, it doesn't really work whatever classes you pick.
scout has read law books. sober demoman can definitely read, no doubt about that.

In my experience while playing in Pyrovision, all signs are turned into incomprehensible Huddas. But Pyro also has been shown reading magazines in Meet The Scout and Expiration Date. It's possible that Pyro was just looking at the pictures, or Pyro speaks their own language of Huddas and Mmphas.
Soldier couldn't read in A Cold Day In Hell, has shown to have very poor spelling, but also talks about Sun Tzu and has magazines in WAR! Considering his vision blurred during A Cold Day In Hell, it's possible he actually has vision problems/dyslexia/some other injury-related impairment and can read on a rudimentary level, but is held back by said issues.
Scout read a ton of books in Expiration Date and Unhappy Returns. Also he makes literary quips sometimes, like jokes about HP Lovecraft, and if you take his Bonk Boy items as him being a comic book fan, he'd also have to read for those as well.
Spy was shown reading a magazine in Expiration Date. He's generally shown as being much smarter than the others, and he'd have to read for his job as a Spy, so I don't think he was ever on the illiterate list.
Engineer and Medic had to be able to read to get their degrees.
Demoman was going to read the Bombinonicon as a child, so I'm guessing he can read just fine as long as he isn't dead drunk.
Poker Night At The Inventory states that Heavy has a PHD in literature. His proficiency in reading English is questionable, however.
Also noteworthy is that in Expiration Date, Scout lists "she can read" as one of Miss Pauling's desirable qualities. So take that as you will.

Is his PhD mentioned anywhere else besides Poker Night though?
