Major Update Speculation XXVI: Much Ado About Nothing

I don't like the music but I'm pretty sure it's because no map has ever done it before. The Suijin one is okay, but on snowplow I feel like I have one of those music mods before the map starts.
Now that I think about it, aren't those mods gonna be overlapping the music? :v:
The music on Suijin is more like a sound effect, so it doesn't really bother me.
On Snowplow it's like a full blown music track for the duration of the setup time and when the train is very damaged, with no easy way to turn it off without muting the rest of the game. There didn't used to be music in Snowplow either.
Yeah, it not being affected by the music slider is a bit numpty.
So I'm trying to complete the Advanced portion of my Engy contract, which requires me to get 5 kills with a single sentry. But every time I get 5 kills with a single entry... nothing happens.
Anyone else having trouble getting this to trigger? Should I just turn in the contract and forget the extra 30 points toward upgrading my coin?
powerhouse is literally hydro 2.0
I felt Powerhouse could really be optimized and detailed more. The outside area is detailed alright, but the way they flipped the map was very lazy. They just changed all the yellow barrels and red textures to blue ones, with little difference otherwise. The walls in the inside portions are very bland and barren, you could easily add some out of bounds rooms for players to look at (like 2fort).
Also, the map lags heavily in the turbine room, because the game is also rendering the other team's turbine room (because of the windows). Tsk, tsk Valve...
Honestly I feel like Powerhouse was originally a KOTH map or at least would be better off as one.
One of the really exciting things about the campaigns is that in the future we'll probably get a new campaign during the first half of the year, which is typically a dead time for major TF2 updates.
Any thoughts on this? I'm sure there won't be that many weapons at all.

Those fucking comments.
"These weapons aren't in the actual game files, here's proof"
"WAAAGGGHHHH UNSUBSCRIBE THEN, I BET YOU COME FROM REDDIT"
Holy FUCK the autism.

No. Fuck off.
Honestly I feel like Powerhouse was originally a KOTH map or at least would be better off as one.
Actually i feel like it was originally a 5CP map. In the main lobby of each base there is a round thing which really feels like a good place for a second (or fourth) cp.
The fact that it takes longer than a quick glance at the HUD is in itself a problem.
No gamemode is obvious from a first glance at the HUD. You have the bias of having played the game before.
Everything new is confusing to a degree, but Snowplow's only grievance is the HUD. Outside of that it's literal A/D and you find out after one-two rounds. Shit like asteroid takes like 10 rounds to comprehend without asking wtf is going on.
Has this already been posted here?

I dont know why, but I feel like Snowplow wouldve been better off as a high speed payload map
I assume most people got only one new contract yesterday like me? Does that mean they're splitting them up - one on Saturdays and one on whichever other day? If so that's a good idea - will stop me from doing them both at once. Still wish it was like one a day though.
I dont know why, but I feel like Snowplow wouldve been better off as a high speed payload map
The guy who made frontier tried the same thing but slowed the train down countless of times for balance.
For a moment I was like "why is this guy talking to himself"
Can we please make a petition to make the spy box taunt work as a anti-sentry disguise? I feel like it would lead to it being way more hilarious.
HUD:
We were promised that once the map was basically complete that Valve would code a HUD for us, until then we're stuck with screenoverlays which are horrible to work with. Because it was cut, it never got the additional changes to the HUD that we wanted
Voice lines:
Again, we were promised voice lines at the start of the project but by half way through it became apparent that there was 0% chance of getting any voice lines.
Train being outlined:
We tried it with and without, even in late stages of testing. Overwhelming response was to have it outlined.
Music:
Wasn't my choice. I'm not a fan of it but didn't dislike it enough to veto it. I have mixed feelings about the music in MvM too. I like to listen to music when playing TF2 and any music played by the game clashes. I don't always though and in those times the MvM music is awesome.
Suijin:
Freyja is really bummed out that Valve asked for the koth version rather than the arena version because it was made for arena and she (rightly) thinks the koth version is just not as good as the arena version.
As far as snowplow/suijin/any community map being good/bad/whatever:
By the time a map gets put into the game, most of us have spent so long working on it that we're tired of it, many of us aren't thrilled with Valves choices, we have our favourites from our maps and it bums us out when Valve chooses the ones we wouldn't have. You can't please everyone either, I play a lot of new maps, sometimes I really like them, and sometimes I hate them, but virtually every time there's someone else on the server expressing the opposite opinion.

I really like how fast Powerhouse plays, and it's pretty fun in Highlander too. I can't really see that middle point as being a KOTH map, either.

That's too bad, but the KOTH version is still really fun and Arena is pretty much a dead gamemode, anyway. I'm enjoying the map a lot.

The spy box taunt really makes me just want to see an unlockable disguise kit that lets you disguise as props (but makes you slower, or something). It's really fun to just hide somewhere.
As just a taunt though, it really shouldn't have any actual beneficial gameplay effects.
As just a taunt though, it really shouldn't have any actual beneficial gameplay effects.
It wouldn't though because your disguise kit is always going to be better than being a giant box. It'd literally just be for the novelty and fun.

The reason it tricks people at the moment is because it completely obscures your silhouette, which is what people recognize enemies with, anyway. It also makes you a lot smaller in comparison to just disguising as a certain class. If it actually protected from sentries, too, it would really feel like a P2W-upgrade, which isn't a good idea.

Naw man, sentries detect team colours, therefore they detect the team colours on the box
In the next campaign i want cp_glassworks
While I do want new community maps added in, I don't want every campaign to include a batch of 3 maps, because it's a just a matter of time until Valve runs out of good maps to add in the game, and the time it takes to make just one map wont cut it. What they need to do is include old maps in future campaigns while also adding 1-2 new community maps
Powerhouse is such a good map, holy shit.
Like, they made it small to encourage quick games, but it results in a continuous bottleneck. No matter what, one team is always just ONE POINT AWAY FROM WINNING, so it's a super hectic tug of war that actually requires some teamwork and class variation. I had a game that literally went on for over a half hour; they steamrolled us, but we held them off our final point for like 20 minutes before finally pushing back and taking the win.
That's the kind of gameplay I want out of TF2; everyone gets to constantly be doing something and the match truly isn't over until it's over.

What if they updated some old maps with new Game Modes?
Like, what if with a future update, we get cp_2fort, ctf_gorge, and pl_egypt?
Three maps every four months(ish) isn't that big of a stretch.
I would imagine the cut from the campaign sales will incentivise map makers to tweak their back-catalogue/make new maps.

I don't know how much people are profiting from those map stamps, but there's so incredibly many people who bought the Gun Mettle ticket that I imagine the profits from that far outweigh the stamps.
I'm not really sure why the contracts are restricted to certain maps anyway, they could just make the money go to the map makers wherever you play.
