I kinda feel bad now for him.
Oh...I thought they were showing it to us to tease us. Sorta like "we're not finished with it yet but here's a teaser!"
Oh shit, this came out of freakin' nowhere. Not sure if it's just gonna be a short or not but I suspect that, judging by the items on the workshop, this could be a community run update like EOTL. But that's already been said so...how about them hats? :v:
Oh...I thought they were showing it to us to tease us. Sorta like "we're not finished with it yet but here's a teaser!"
Exactly what i thought.
Awww I feel really bad for him now. Leaking things is so not cool, especially when you're asleep and can't do anything about it. That said. That's a pretty awesome video and it's good to see some of the invasion stuff looks better than those [mostly bad] maps made last year for it. EDIT: Just saw the workshop page with the cosmetics. Some of those look rad, not seen those before.
I was just gonna say, I don't think we're supposed to see this.
what's with people wanting to remove the mask from the Spy?
what's with people wanting to remove the mask from the Spy?
I doubt that item will get in if this update is a thing.
I disagree. It seems redundant to wear a paper mask over his mask.
but it removes the mystery of TF2's mysterious man
Im sorry but whoever leaked the coming update is an asshole for doing that.
I though we already have Pyro for the "Won't ever take his mask off" cliche
Don't let VNN catch wind of this. ... VNN, if you're reading this, then stop right there and forget about making a video about this leak. It's going to cause a shitstorm.

You can bet your ass that it's going to find its way into one of their videos wrought with misinformation touted as truth.

Do you guys think we're even getting weapons?
As leaks go it's not the worst. It's not something completely out of the blue, the invasion stuff has been in the public eye for a while. But it's kind of like knowing what your Christmas presents will be while it's still February.
Do you guys think we're even getting weapons?
The safe answer here is: No. Do not believe anything otherwise unless you want to set yourself up for crippling disappointment.
Wish it was easier to get involved in these community updates. It seems like unless you are part of a very small and select 'community' you can't get involved.
Wish it was easier to get involved in these community updates. It seems like unless you are part of a very small and select 'community' you can't get involved.
You have to make quality TF2-related media. It's not that hard to understand. However, it is hard to actually make the good stuff. People like Chaofanatic and Heartsman got into past community updates because they spent a long time working on their craft and put all they can into what they do. You aren't going to get into the update because you, say, made an item set and submitted it to the workshop.

Looks like a halloween update to me.
Wish it was easier to get involved in these community updates. It seems like unless you are part of a very small and select 'community' you can't get involved.
Well in order to be part of a community-contribution it kinda helps to be both capable of producing quality content and knowledgeable that in order to join a group project, it helps to talk to people who are likely to form group projects. Find a skillset you wish to hone. Find out how that skillset can allow yourself to enhance TF2 via your own contribution. Find other people who have similar sentiments and train yourself. Group projects are very much a people-networking skill, without social skills you won't meet the people who'll potentially contact you to participate. "Community" is too broad and all-inclusive. There are exponentially too many people who have nothing more to contribute than utter rubbish. That's why people seek out specialists, people good at what they do. In reality, it's not "community", it's "qualified community volunteers." It's a distinction to identify when an update is crafted by valve and when someone else is at the helm, but it's much easier to just use 1 word for that.

I didn't have time for that, so I didn't enter. I definitely would've tried harder to make time for this if I knew it was going to be a community update. "Group projects are very much a people-networking skill" Oh come on. Then that means Community updates are TF2-friends-networking-updates. There was never any open announcement made about this. Once I heard about it from a few workshop friends it was already too late and they said "oh, I thought you knew about this already, sorry".
I would be fine with TF2 development being handed over to the community if not for the fact that it means we're going to get less and less new weapons and balance changes. Updates that are entirely cosmetic-related don't even feel like actual updates to me. Maybe they should look into finding ways to hand balance and whatnot over to the community too. The problem is that it's very obvious if someone is good at making cosmetics (you just look at their models or animations or whatnot and draw your conclusions,) but it's very difficult to tell if someone's good at game balance and weapon design.

I definitely would've tried harder to make time for this if I knew it was going to be a community update.
Sorry, but that's on you. It sucks to miss a timeslot, but priorities are priorities. Boogaloo started out as a trend, and it snowballed into its own thing. There was no guarantee of it becoming a community update, it just happened and everyone on board was already on board due to that. Similarly, there was no guarantee that Invasion would've been a thing at the time of the contest running. You can't expect long-term plans to be cemented for every single contest. That's unfair to the people running the contest unless they make it clear from the onset, such as the artpass contest or Polycount contest.
"Group projects are very much a people-networking skill" Oh come on. Then that means Community updates are TF2-friends-networking-updates. Once I heard about it from a few workshop friends it was already too late and they said "oh, I thought you knew about this already, sorry".
You're misconstruing what I'm saying. Someone who wants to participate not only needs to talk to people, but they need to have their work recognized. If someone holed themselves up in a room with no outside contact but made the best goddamn <something> you'd ever laid eyes upon, it wouldn't matter. Because their work has never left their hands, it's never been digested by others. There's no notoriety or recognizable flair to their work because it's secluded. Networking people is getting your de facto "resume" into the hands of people who may be interested. In this case, getting it into the hands of everyone. No one will hire a writer, artist, programmer, animator, or what have you with no name and nothing to show for it.

I definitely would've tried harder to make time for this if I knew it was going to be a community update.
I was one of the guys that made the Range Finder, which won the contest, and I'm not on the team. The contest wasn't a secret try out for the team, it was to drum up content and community involvement.
-never mind this was from a month ago-
Okay, the video was apparently leaked from the time it was released, should explain 2 month old comment. Source - reddit, someone who claims that he/she leaked it.
Brb i need to make a shmup about the tf2 mercs vs aliens
Even though obviously leaks aren't cool to the creator, the video is still amazing. Probably one of my favourite TF2 update videos and it isn't even properly finished yet.
Currently you can only somewhat expect two things : -Hats (high chance) -2 Maps (??)
