I think Valve is pretty much done with ARG stuff, so yeah I would be okay with it.
So, what, is this a community map, a community update, or what
Lets just stick with a sfm short for now.
I like calling it MUS. Its more of a tradition than anything particulary specific/functional/practical
Well, alternative is also calling it Major Update Speculation and Discussion but that's just (MU)SAD.
I think we should agree on the 'who makes a new thread' rules before it happens. 1. You can't make the new thread until this one has expired. No pre-emptive stuff. 2. The first one to get made after this thread has expired is the one we use. Regardless of how it's done or how clever the title is. 3. Any of the ones we don't use have to edit their OP to direct to the proper one. 4. If you call it a different name or something (Major Update Discussion or whatever) it still falls under the same umbrella. We don't need both a MUS and a MUD. I don't personally care about who makes it or whatever but last time we ended up having two threads for a while and it was real lame.
I only ninja'd it so I could actually put effort into the OP instead of just a link of all the old threads.
I only ninja'd it so I could actually put effort into the OP instead of just a link of all the old threads.
Yeah not saying there was anything wrong with it last time it's just it'd be probably better not to this time to avoid confusion. Otherwise nobody knows how early to go. :v:
What's the maximum amount of replies can a thread contain anyway?

So as always, reddit is bunch of fucking pussies. Thread with the video got to the front page and was taken down by mods with reasoning: "We are not supposed to see this". Here is my shameless plug
What's the maximum amount of replies can a thread contain anyway?
5000, or 125 pages of 40 posts each.
There's 3 maps on the invasion page, now.
So as always, reddit is bunch of fucking pussies.
It seems no one realizes mat_phong 0 looking the way it does is actually a bug with the lightwarps. NeoDement pointed this out to me with the Foster's Facade Phong Fix. Let me demonstrate (focus on the mask, ignore the rest of the pyro): mat_phong 0 [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/594717282286589209/92EE302B9EB1F4F6B296FDC86A4587632F66E199/[/t] mat_phong 1 [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/594717282286594796/9F0D9AAD40CD4F03A16EC28D5D70E39EA33EB4E4/[/t] Not only does mat_phong 0 remove the shininess on the metallic parts of the hat (as intended), but it also drastically changes the shading (not intended). Essentially, your "cartoony" effect is a bug with the engine that could be patched out at any moment. If aesthetics are your issue, a lot of the ugly whiteness is removed by just using r_rimlight 0, it's bug-free and it's not marked as a cheat anymore.
Every time I boot up tf2 I have to enter the r_rimlight 0 command. is there an easier way to do this without entering the command every single time?
edit your autoexect.cfg
you just started the hype train, get ready for derailment.
I wish! But mods on /r/tf2 have no connection to actual team. It was more along the lines that they're scared Valve will now delay this update because of the leak (the fuck?).
I want to ask usual-thread-users something. We're coming up to needing a new thread soon, and I'm wondering if the name of the thread should... change? Namely, from Major Update Speculation to Major Update Discussion. Gods knows it's used a LOT more for discussion than speculation, and this would solve a large amount of arguments about the subject.
Yes please. Will finally get rid of the "Not much speculating going on here" shitposts.
Every time I boot up tf2 I have to enter the r_rimlight 0 command. is there an easier way to do this without entering the command every single time?
make a file called autoexec.cfg in your cfg folder, and put r_rimlight 0 in it
I decided to refrain from playing TF2 till the (supposed) matchmaking tool will be implemented (new features are useless to me if I have to play them among the human dump the game's community has become) You know, I wouldn't mind a ranked matchmaking thing like the one in Dota 2 for TF2 as well: if you win the match, your rank increases, while it decreases if you loose It would be an incentive to actually follow the objectives of the map, at any rate
make a file called autoexec.cfg in your cfg folder, and put r_rimlight 0 in it

edit your autoexect.cfg
Alright, but how come I can't add it into the original config file or doesn't it work like that? EDIT: It's still defaulting to "1" even with an autoexec.cfg file (with the cfg file format), I've entered precisely r_rimlight 0, I've tried r_rimlight "0" and other forms to no avail, any further help would be greatly appreciated
Alright, but how come I can't add it into the original config file or doesn't it work like that?
Yeah don't.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/b0mvaWJ.png[/t]
Reminds me a great deal of the early screens of TF2. You can cleary tell there is phong in use, but no such luck on rimlighting.
I'm wondering if we will actually see what the aliens themselves look-like with the invasion update? Or will it just be simply the UFO's? Currently, the interior of the probed map UFO has no sign of the aliens. Of course that may change, but I'm wondering how the aliens will interact with the mercs other than abducting them perhaps. Will they fight the mercs themselves? Or just get the UFO's to do all the invasion business for them?
What if the aliens are just UFO ? That would be "dumb" but can works.

For me, TF2 is fun because people don't take things too seriously. I don't think I've ever seen flaming in TF2 that is on the same level as the stuff you see in most Dota 2 or CS:GO matches. I hope peoples' attitudes do not change after matchmaking arrives.
You guys do realize that there still is very little evidence that this is an update officially getting added to the game, right?
You know, I wouldn't mind a ranked matchmaking thing like the one in Dota 2 for TF2 as well: if you win the match, your rank increases, while it decreases if you loose
Isn't that literally the point of the supposed matchmaking? How else will they match people by skill level if not for ranks? I thought it was a given that it'd be like that.
You guys do realize that there still is very little evidence that this is an update officially getting added to the game, right?
I had the same exact thought, but the TF2 Invasion collection on the workshop kinda changed my mind into thinking that it may be real. I'm not hyping myself yet though. Also, the secret kritzkast thingy implies they were working on this for quite some time.
You guys do realize that there still is very little evidence that this is an update officially getting added to the game, right?
I thought the Little Guardian Pyro guys basically already confirmed it?
Most likely it's just a simple community project which some jackass fucked over by leaking that video On top of the team behind this project likely being demoralized by the leak, people will think it's an official update, and will be breathing down the necks of both them and Valve, which will cause everyone to get angry at both of them if it doesn't happen, and will probably still be mad at everyone involved even if it does happen, because overhype Whoever leaked this probably just helped create a complete shit show
