Major Update Speculation XXVI: Much Ado About Nothing
Pretty sure it's already been confirmed that this is going to be an update and even if it hasn't nobody here is getting that hyped. I think most of us at this point are just expecting some sweet alien hats.
EDIT: basically confirmed*
"basically confirmed"
i.e. It's not confirmed at all
Why are people saying spyvengi is cancelled, anyway? We've received no evidence that suggests this.
Why are people saying spyvengi is cancelled, anyway? We've received no evidence that suggests this.
Pessimism and the Team Fortress 2 community have gone hand and hand for a long time. We got hints of the update almost a year ago and there's nothing so far. Obviously I don't think it's canceled, after all, we've waited longer for updates.
I'm telling you guys, don't hype up an update when there's no confirmation from Valve that it even exists.
And even then, don't hype it up. It's like people haven't learned from the last two times.
I'm a little divided when it comes to spy vs engie;
We have lots of teases for a space themed update with the gun mettle update, with the rd_asteroid and the poopy Joe stuff. Alongside the map being in beta for a while and teases for it going back a year before as well. But not a whole lot of references with a war between to the two classes.
So I'm wondering if the spy vs engie will be the space update? Or if the space update is its own big thing in around the august - October time frame, perhaps with the next comic. With the spy vs engie coming later in the year, like November or Christmas?
It's just the space themed update really feels like its own thing, having been teased for much longer and having a certain established theme. Whereas spy vs engie is still a bit of a mystery of how it will play out.

Forgot the word was tentative was in there, but considering it was a year ago and it's still obviously being worked on I don't think it's crazy to imagine it's become a thing.
I get that we've been burned before guys but it gets to a point of under-hyping things that it's a little crazy. As I said last page I'm personally not expecting anything more than some sweet hats so even if it falls through somehow I won't even be that sad. Right now nobody is hyping this any more than it needs to be. You're acting like we're expecting weapons/maps in this update which nobody is.
You have to remember this is the major update speculation thread. It's literal purpose is to speculate on stuff like this that is uncertain.
Why are people saying spyvengi is cancelled, anyway? We've received no evidence that suggests this.
I personally took the bevy of Spy and Engineer rebalances to mean that it's coming as the next big update.

I agree with you, and here's my speculation of how this will work out. Please note that this is SPECULATION, and is most likely not true. Take this with the grainiest piece of salt you can.
-Spy Vs Engie Update being concepted out a year ago.
-Community Update similar to Night of the Living Dead being made at same time.
-Around the time of Mercs vs Aliens, valve team contacts the new community update to discuss an alien themed-update in the near future. They do Mercs VS Aliens to attempt to get community mappers riled up and produce maps.
-Around the same time, Spy VS Engineer and EOTL is being worked on. Spy VS Engie team gets the idea to cooperate with the community update crew after EOTL enters late production.
-EOTL happens and a lot of production between Spy Vs Engie and Invasion crew happens.
-Large update drought as they work on this. War Journal gets leaked after working on contracts for Gun Mettle and Spy vs Engie/Invasion. SFM begins work near the end of the drought. Many maps of the Mercs vs Alien contest reviewed over for potential inclusion.
-Gun Mettle occurs, and so does Kritzkrast. Spy and Engie changes are made so the community can adjust to it.
-Invasion Trailer leaked pratically complete.
-Potential confirmation from the team following the days/weeks of the leak.
-In the near future, around September-December, Invasion/Spy VS Engie update comes out. Contracts and some maps is the meat of the update. Smissmiss and Halloween still occur, so my guess is either September-November, although EOTL was released basically right before smissmass.
I wonder now, will there be a option to contribute new skins to the workshop.
and if yes I wonder if there will be option to contribute skins for non-valve made weapons. They still could pay orignal creator of item X% and like 25% to creator of skin, from the pass or key
I wonder now, will there be a option to contribute new skins to the workshop.
Then the workshop will become the worst Gamebanana, with people overlaying photos of Gabe Newell and FNAF over the stock skins.

Isn't there a workshop with skins for CS:GO?

Or at least that is my hope.

I pray to whatever exists that it doesn't happen. Seriously.
I can take the big ass ascii art about valve accepting X item but I don't want every submission to be spammed with
"HI THIS IS COOL!!! VOTE FOR MINE!!! http://stupidassskin.tribal.com"
Being the late fuck that i am i missed out on everything! Someone tell me what happend in it.. Please i'm desperate here ;__;

What possible evidence is there of this?
The (somewhat sad fact) is paintball guns sell.

Some scumbag leaked the invasion update trailer and probably screwed up a lot of things concerning the update.

If they add skins for non-stock items, weapon recognition will be dead.
Right now, if you see someone holding a weapon with an unfamiliar mish-mash of colors that doesn't match any of the unlocks, then you at least know it's a stock weapon. You don't have to memorize what every single skin looks like, you can just use the mental shortcut of skin = stock weapon to tell what it is they're holding.
Once unlocks have skins as well, all bets are off. That puke-green camo-patterned scattergun that the scout's holding? It could be stock, or it could be a force-a-nature, or a soda popper, or a BFB. That purple-pink rifle, half-covered in a radioactive green unusual effect that the sniper on the other side of the map is holding? There's like five different things it could be. And so on.
Weapon skins in general were a bad idea for recognition, but having them be all stock was the one thing that saved them from breaking it entirely.
Some "Can't sleep" wannabe reuploaded the recently removed invasion trailer. Don't be fooled, it's not the same guy who uploaded the HWN 2013 video.

Some accepted are actually decent? I am not saying that all of them are great but they are not much worse than some hats in tf2.

australium unlocks

That's fair enough, I am not saying that it's great idea or I am not defending it but can you really tell difference between force of nature and soda popper in middle of intense gun fight without hearing it earlier? Or Tell difference between winger and stock pistol? Some weapons are already quite similar and hard to tell difference between them at least for me.
Besides we got already australium weapons and things like Three rune blade or the Maul. I know they are rare to see but they do exist.

The awp is the only thing you linked that looks dumb. I think community skins will be fine as long as they're not just a mish mash of random symbols and colors. Which seems to be what is currently popular with the CSGO crowd.
For all we know Invasion is just an EOTL style short with no promise of an update and that's all it needs to be.

It's in the eye of beholder.
Besides valve already made mish-mash of symbols and brands, all related to the world of TF2 though.
m'kay
So I missed everything, huh? I feel like the rapture happened, and I didn't notice 'cause I was at work. :suicide:
here's a mirror. I can't understand why some people still think, that's it official valve-made, while end of the video credits all creators
or should I snip it
Can you snip it? Don't make this worse than it already has been;
Please don't re-post the leak, I understand people have seen it by now but still have respect those involved with it. Someone needs to have a word with whoever is trying mirroring this, they don't understand that they are doing more harm than good.
