• Major Update Speculation XXVI: Much Ado About Nothing

So, we're coming up on six months without new hats, the longest we've gone without new hats in the history of virtual mercenary wear(discounting tournament medals/participation medals because fuck those things, they're not real hats). Does anybody else find this a little odd? I get that they're shifting some focus onto maps and taunts but still.

It's the same reason they didn't include hats in the Two Cities update, people only have so much money and there is no reason to have multiple things to have people spend money on. I imagine the next non campaign major update will include hats.
As someone who uses the Diamondback routinely, I have to say I don't believe that for an instant.
[t]http://puu.sh/iUTfz/bf24e970c3.jpg[/t] left window is stock revolver, right is six shots with the diamondback from the far wall, at the very least it has drastically reduced spread
Why test against an unlit window? Why use such a small sample size and only shoot six shots? And why are there only three bulletholes on the right side? I just hopped into TF2, started up an itemtest server, and emptied my full spawn ammo reserve of Diamondback bullets into this wall from the opposite side of the room. Looks like pretty normal spread to me.

I'd love to point out that since Gun Mettle, there has only been 5-10 new posts a day and no shitposting/complaining. If that doesn't show satisfaction, then I have no idea what will.
Give it time. By next month people will be at eachother's throats while the Dota 2 international is happening and there hasn't been an update for TF2.
Yeah, I totally can't wait for the next "Death of TF2". This one was great, and each one just gets better than the last!

I mean, it isn't 15-20 hours a week like before, but the little changes and the new maps are a pleasant thing for me, and some of the weapon skins are pretty nice (not all, of course) that I want to see them used a bit more.
i think its a safe bet there wont be anything else happening until sept 30th even then there's no guarantee they will start a new campaign right after the last one ends
TF2's dead for me anyway
We'll be holding a memorial, if you'd like to attend. We ask that attire be lime or pink painted unusuals, or at the very least Gibuses. We want to keep things classy. There will be a sandvich buffet, and after Reverend Newell delivers the eulogy we'll have conga-ing, Russian dancing, human towers, go-karting, a knife throwing contest, and grappling hook wheels. We'll also be exchanging Secret Saxtons, as well as having a key raffle, with all proceeds going to help either the Spycrab Preservation Society or the Del "Bacon Legs" Bluskin Memorial Fund. Be sure to RSVP by emailing Robin Walker asking when the tenth class is being added.
You know what the doctors say - an update a half year make the shit-posting and arguing disappear.
Which reminds me... I meant to post this prior to the update but the Official Wiki was down for days. [t]http://i.imgur.com/OGscMTs.png[/t] In the future, I suggest simply posting this image when anybody bitches about no major update in the first half of the year. And politely explaining that 2011 was some time ago.
I'm gonna go full rainbow and say we'll get an update in August, even if it's just more buffs and nerfs with some hats I'll be satisfied.
Another Limited Late Summer Crate seems like a possibility, considering the lack of cosmetics this year.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/OGscMTs.png[/t]
Looking at that image makes me nostalgic for the promo weapon updates. I mean, obviously it's in part due to the previous drought of content of course, but it's not just that. For as much shit as we all gave the idea of promo updates being a part of TF2, you have to admit they gave us some pretty creative weapons and cosmetic items.

So, we've gotten to the point where the things that people used to hate are now nostalgic? (I should note, I actually have always been okay with promo items as long as they were cool.)
Its not so much lack of major updates, it's more lack of anything decent or relevant.
Its not so much lack of major updates, it's more lack of anything decent or relevant.
By default, anything added at any time is relevant as long as we're talking about Tf2.

Typically we got weapons that were either underpowered as fuck (see: pre buff Widowmaker, Neon Annihilator, Short Circuit). Or weapons that are just plain stupid (release Red-Tape Recorder, Huo-Long to an extent). Although most of these problems got addressed a little while after they came out so I guess it's not all bad.
By default, anything added at any time is relevant as long as we're talking about Tf2.
I mean them thinking its a major update when it's nothing short of a few cosmetics and changes ie eotl and last year's summer update
Many great and interesting weapons came out from the promo pacs I kinda wish we got some cross promo. I wonder what's the reason, does no developer is interested with developing stuff for tf2 or acceptation process has changed or dunno. I remember that Sega and creative assembly used to have quite a lot promos for tf2. Now since sega own Relic and it's DOW3 got developed one day..... how I wish for 40K weapons in tf2. but saddly it never gona happend
I would love to see some more promotional updates like the deus ex and Shogun updates in previous years. Adding new weapons and hats around the game's theme.
I think Valve stopped releasing cosmetics (temporarily I'm sure) because of all the complaining people were doing every time hats were added to the game.
I mean them thinking its a major update when it's nothing short of a few cosmetics and changes ie eotl and last year's summer update
But you don't determine what a major update is. You're not able to say "yeah well you think it's a major update but it really isn't cause it only added a few things".
I think Valve stopped releasing cosmetics (temporarily I'm sure) because of all the complaining people were doing every time hats were added to the game.
I think it was probably to stop horribly inflating TF2's file size
It's obvious that update trend has been changing since last years. See, update pages seems to be rarer ( see last smissmas ) , the big gold star workshop community crates era that followed robotic boogaloo seems to be over, ARGs and explicit hints seems to be instinct ( stuff like foundry's Tobor ), and promo items seems like a thing of the past too, let alone promo weapons ( iirc the last promo cosmetic we had weren't the best so maybe it's not a bad thing to stop that for now )
I think Valve stopped releasing cosmetics (temporarily I'm sure) because of all the complaining people were doing every time hats were added to the game.
Or because they don't want to draw people's attention away from the new weapon skins. People won't buy as many hats if they're more interested in buying crates from the market, and vice versa.
