Major Update Speculation XXVI: Much Ado About Nothing
So you guys think there may be some hidden goodies in this last update? An ARG would be great right about now..... Worth a check right?
My favorite part of any update is an ARG. Things like those banana peel codes and golden wrench finds in the past were great, so I hope we might eventually see something really drawn out like that.
TF Team, if you are listening: please make another really long arg, based around community cooperation.

No more eotl, thank you.

but you see
EOTL was more-less ruined by valve

Valve killed EOTL, not the community. For example: Valve removed a weapon, a map and were encouraging the community to build hype.
Gosh, I haven't been here since october. So much stuff must be happening. I finally got a new pc so I can run this game decently. Is Engy vs Spy finally out?
New comic issue?
New weapons?
Any update expected for summer?
New secret stuff leaked?
Gosh, so much stuff must have happened while I was away and now I'll finally have time to enjoy it... Right?

pretty much a nope on all fronts.
oh ho ho ho no. community builts expectatives based on asumptions and all sorts of theories. weapons, nor maps were never part of the deal, all we ever got is "eotl is a video and the cosmetics on it".
yet until the very end people was asking about the weapons that mcvee promised, if anything, valve "leak" policies to handle info are what has to be blamed because they gre fond of a system where they dont have to take any responsabilities - either to confirm or deny stuff -

Nothing has happened at all this year
TF2 is on life support like the Mann brothers were.
Every time it's dead a little longer.

Here I'll recap what you missed Since October
ScreamFortress was a Bumpercar Minigame, wasnt bad actually, introduced a joke about collecting Rubberducks in one of the Bumpercar minigames, Merasmus would sometimes scream BONUS DUCKS.
End of the Line, the most hyped update of the year ended up being one of the worst updates in TF2 history, cp_snowplow was deemed too confusing so it wasn't added,
No new weapons, and the event we got instead was...
picking up Rubber ducks. Not only that but in order to collect the rubber ducks this time you had to pay money for a journal to collect ducks.
What did the ducks do? Absolutely nothing!
Valve released Mann Powered mode as damage control during the Smissmass update due to the backlash against End of the Line. Demoman was also slightly rebalanced
Mannpower was pretty terrible then, and its not much better now. I wont go into its problems here, but I imagine it'll be in "beta" for a very very long time. This was about half a year ago.
And since then...we've gotten pretty much nothing.
And we dont even have anything to go off of to be hyped about an upcomming update.
tf2 section on facepunch - your no.1 stop for anything depressing

What else are we supposed to do? Spectate on what localization files are gonna be updated next?
To be fair, I was not expecting anything big nor getting my expectations too high like stated in the last thread, but honestly for there to not even be a small content update (not even a couple of the new cosmetics) just before the summer sale get's me thinking that maybe something bigger is in the works and that it might be added in game not too long from now.
I mean, it's really weird that they didn't even bother to add a couple new cosmetics, let alone crates, it's basically free cash for them...

Exactly.
If we actually got something very basic and insubstantial in the last update, like a new crate series and some cosmetics, then it'd be much more warranted to be all doom and gloom and claim that ''this is it? we're not getting anything else for summer?''.
But as we've literally gotten nothing so far (apart from some bug and Map Workshop fixes) I still find it highly unlikely, even for the TF2 Team, that they wouldn't try to tide people over with at least some sales-enhancing content, even if it were cosmetic. That and the fact that we still have 2-3 weeks where it's feasible to expect a summer update (considering all the past ones shipped in the second half of June or early July) leads me to hope and expect there's something coming despite all the current cynicism and fears.
The arguments against the above are primarily that this would be the first time that a TF2 summer update shipped well past the start of the Steam Summer Sale (or missed it entirely), which isn't really good business-wise as lots of potential TF2 customers might be out of money for spending on TF2 stuff by the time the update hits, and the very worrying complete lack of any Valve blogposts so far that would actually tease an incoming update (like the Moonbase and scrapped weapon ideas posts we got last year).
We'll just have to wait and see, I guess. I also feel that this year's Summer Sale coming waaaay earlier than previous years (8 days earlier than in 2014, a full month earlier than in 2013 or 2012, almost 3 weeks earlier than 2011) has probably falsely lead everyone to believe (myself included) that a major TF2 update would ship that early in June. Rainbows, of course.

But surely, in the 6 months we've waited, we should have gotten SOMETHING, right?
There hasn't been ANYTHING. No hints at updates, no ARG stuff, anything. In fact, the only reason we even knew of the supposed Spy vs. Engie Update was because of testinglol, right? We weren't even given any actual information from the TF Team themselves about future updates.
They have given us no reason to be hopeful for an update, so I shall remain hopeless.

They also flat-out killed the Heavy.

That was the Love and War Update, which was before October.
Luckily that weapon switch thing was fixed.
Love and War was actually this month a year ago.

There was the photo of the hat wall on page 3 of the MyM2 event. There is a symbol and other notes on that wall, but too hard to make out. No one has gone to take a photo yet :(

I'm pretty sure MyM was a community only thing
I'm pretty sure MyM was a community only thing
I'm fairly sure that the stuff teased in Meet your Makers (bar the "They're Watching" page) is all official Valve update stuff. There's new sketches (for things we haven't seen in a comic/movie) which leads me to believe that the picture on the hat wall is a picture of a new official Valve map.
Also of note: that stuff was teased with the interviews by official Valve people, aka Makani and the TF team.
A bit more on topic speculation: I doubt that we'll be seeing a TF2 update next week, as they'll probably have their hands full with, y'know, rolling out Source 2 and the new Dota update.
I can't connect to steam cloud for some reason even though i exited steam and restarted the computer.
Dayum, i'm holding my inner hype everytime something went different in tf2/steam
I'm pretty sure MyM was a community only thing
There is a picture of a new Valve map on the wall of hats but it's small and it's pretty much impossible to make out any details.

What does the TF Team have to do with dota?
What does the TF Team have to do with dota?
We know in the past when there's major things/updates/games coming out, members from other teams help out. And, let's face it, Source 2, is sort of a big deal. My reasoning.
great, now they took mann up servers to use them for dota2. it's that time again where we wait 20 minute to get into a game.
Well, looks like the summer sale's a great time to pick up keys on the Marketplace if anyone wants to stock up...

Key prices on the marketplace always drop during sales because people drop the prices to sell more of them and get more money for the sale.
