Major Update Speculation XXVI: Much Ado About Nothing
MUS should only get posts when theres new info or an update is happening
Otherwise this is just a shitty general chat thread where people complain about Valve 24x7
I remember when I was saying about this last year.
Just...don't bother posting in the thread if you haven't got anything to actively share. Got an interesting tidbit about an upcoming update? Sure go ahead post it. Someone's tweeted a picture of a new comic/short? Post it.
This thread wasn't ever really for talking about new small updates, only if they've got some hidden thing in it (like the updated localization files era).
So if it isn't gameplay related, does that mean they got the leaning tower of code to Source 2?

I thought they said they have no plans to port it to Source 2?
And realistically, all we'll get apart from Halloween and Smissmas will be Matchmaking this year. Spy vs. Engie is just some rumor that probably already got scrapped again.

Realistically, you're wrong. It's highly likely they're sitting on a completed rd_asteroid, which would (hopefully) come with the whole Valve space update(not the one that members of the community might be working on).
Cactus Canyon is up in the air, but I'd say it's possibly been abandoned. I could be wrong, and they might also have a fully detailed version of that ready to go.
Mannpower is still in development; I wouldn't be surprised if they're also working on some completely new maps for the gamemode to make better use of the grappling hooks/powerups.
Lastly, we still have that image of the map from the hat wall. It doesn't look like any map currently in the game, so it could highly likely be yet another new Valve map.
I mean, right there that's three maps. Throw in some cosmetics, maybe some weapon balance changes and you have the summer update of 2013. Which, I may remind you, came out on July 10th.
We're in a drought, but that does not by ANY means nothing is being worked on, or that TF2 is dead. We're playing the waiting game.
Eh, non-gameplay stuff is neat and all but I'd rather be excited to actually play TF2 with new content. Not saying the comics or SFM stuff isn't cool, it just doesn't get me hyped to play the game, which in reality hasn't had a major content update in quite a while. Still slightly curious/excited to see what's coming.
no gameplay related = a new wave of we love fine tshirts.
Who the hell knows, maybe Valve is having an internal Longhorn debacle of their own where some project got so fucked up that they just decided to start over again.

We've been playing the waiting game for long enough.
There comes a point where vague hints of possible content and hollow promises from the devs of "an even better year than the last!" just isn't enough.
So what if they might have stuff in the works? It's been in the works forever. Will we ever get to actually see it?
After all this wait, if they don't make a update even bigger than the Uber-Update, with tons of weapons and maps and shit, this will be a game over.
I mean, if their next update is all about matchmaking is kinda cool and I'm happy for it, but almost 7 months just for it, it would be the most dissapointing thing ever.
I even doubt that a SpyVsEngie update will be enough for almost seven months.
Anyway, sorry for the Valve whining. Is all we can do now, sadly.
If Valve is working on a major update, it will be probably released during this week.
In 2011, Uber Update (June 23) happened during Thursday and, before it, there were some cosmetic packs and a pair of more-or-less-major updates (Hatless, Replay).
In 2012, Pyromania Update (June 27, Wednesday) was a first major update of the year but, before it, a single Workshop item would be added once a week. In addition, there was a big riddle before this update (the one with goldfishes, pocket lints...).
And for this year, we got six Tomb Raider cosmetics, 3 taunts, map Workshop and Mannpower adjustments.
Hopefully, this gave Valve enough time to prepare, since now they are literally missing great chances to fill their wallets and make us happy at the same time.
Also, their update counter (which is allegedly tampered) currently says "496", while the TF2 wiki's says "501". In addition, Barely-Melted Capacitor and Fireproof Secret Diary are left in the game.
Can there be any chance that patches 497, 498 and 499 would be used for a new pre-update riddle, like Pyromania one?
no gameplay related = a new wave of we love fine tshirts.
That would be actually cool cause wlf kinda forgot about tf2 section. I sent my tshirt like 3-4 months ago upon request and to this day nothing has happened. Looks like they hired potted plant's brother.
I am skeptical about the competitive matchmaking. Surely we would see a beta version used for Mann Up before the competitive update.
We're nearly halfway through 2015 (July 2nd). I think that at least keeping us updated and actually finishing stuff that they promised (such as moonbase update) would be way more useful than adding new content out of the blue (such as mannpower, maps workshop, etc). Right now, it's just a mess
[sp]it's not gameplay related[/sp]
Sound like Source2 for sure.
Who'll get hyped about hats/movie/comics anyway..
I am skeptical about the competitive matchmaking. Surely we would see a beta version used for Mann Up before the competitive update.
its planned to launch as a beta. i saw mentions of it before in some files.
Sound like Source2 for sure.
Who'll get hyped about hats/movie/comics anyway..
But Source 2 is very gameplay related. Don't get hyped about this. You know how it goes.
It's not a problem for me anymore. I literally can't get hyped about TF2 these days. Whatever they're doing (if they are even doing anything), it just won't be good. They haven't done anything good in forever. They've done some decent things, sure, but nothing truly good. They completely butchered a community update for fuck's sake. Spy vs Engie sounds great on paper, but I know they'll fuck it up somehow. If it's even in development, that is. I just know it.
None of this would have happened if we stick to the other thread

The only problem with launching this week is that the Steam summer sale just ended and many TF2 players would of spent a bunch of money on the sale and wont have extra money for keys or whatever else Valve sells in the update. I think it would make more sense to wait a few more weeks to launch a major update so that players have money to spend, but I sure hope I'm wrong and we get something this week.
Testinglol actually has some stuff to hype you guys up, but I haven't asked him if I can talk about it on his behalf.
But what's going to happen to TF2 is actually pretty fucking dope.
Yeah, nothing doper than the sweet release of death
Yeah, they're most likely letting wallets recharge before striking with a new wave of paid-only content
Can we expect a CS:GO/Dota 2 profile rank system for matchmaking/public games, you think?
XP for objective completion, scales with real player count
But then again, this would have people boosting the fuck out of the system, so maybe making it only work in official maps/workshop-approved maps would do the trick? This would require someone at Valve getting off their ass and actually looking at the maps workshop every week though

Or just have it do things only in official matchmaking.
Why do I think it's going to be new crates?
I am almost sure it's going to be new crates. If it's not gameplay related, than it should be atleast hats, right?
no gameplay related = a new wave of we love fine tshirts.
and, believe me, we love fine.
Hope Valve create (or rents or host) some south american servers for this, we all hope, competitive mode. It would suck to be paired against 20-60 ping players meanwhile my ping is 250 or Sydney 600.
its planned to launch as a beta. i saw mentions of it before in some files.
well that's just great
do they even release completed things anymore
its planned to launch as a beta. i saw mentions of it before in some files.
Hopefully this means we're getting it sooner rather than later! As I've previously stated if it being in beta means we're getting it in the next couple of weeks I'm all for it.
