Temptation to plug is high, but I know I shouldn't.

This can actually work out. After all, fake updates have been done before, and even so have gone semi-official.
Everyone can pitch in at least one thing. We can make an update page like this or this, and it would be cool.
Look how EOTL turned out
Or we can just forget about mistakes, and actually do something for the game we all love.
And who cares about Valve if they will want to add it or not, it'll be our own thing.
Fake'ish updates existed before, and almost all gone semi official.

Exactly what i am talking about. Instead of fighting or getting upset at Valve for not doing anything, why not we just make our own, and be happy with it. At least for some time.

i love those fake update pages, but i haven't seen anyone make one in years
i'd legitimately love it if people came together and made something like that again, it'd be just like old times

Now that I'm reminded that the Guard Dog exists, has there ever been any undertaking to make a model of it for gmod / SFM use? I'm sure it would be a lot more useful now than it was years ago, when we didn't have any good reason to make npc models other than for fun. Kinda in the line of how we use the Jack kid from that one smissmass update in shorts and sfm flicks, when he would have had little to no use if he was made prior to SFM.
I remember somebody made a Pocket Guard Dog cosmetic, and that to this day is probably the only post update page model relating to the thing. I'm surprised nobody else has ever tried anything with it.

no, mus never made their own fake update
i just meant that having a new fake update at all would be like old times

Oooh when we actually got content. Gotcha.
Oooh when we actually got content. Gotcha.
that's not exactly what i meant, i was talking more about the fake updates themselves than the content we actually got back then
anyone can dump their half-baked ideas for new weapons or a tenth class into a forum post, but going through all the effort of making a detailed, multi-day update page with models and everything just made them so much more memorable and interesting
it also helps that the updates from that era (sniper vs. spy/classless/war) had a really nice and distinct visual style that's reasonably simple to recreate in photoshop
i don't know, i have a whole lot of nostalgia for those silly things

Sign me up.
yeah, comunity-fueled fake updates were a blast on the mailing list, right?
God, you people accused me of being too pessimistic about the state of the game but after reading through the last 10 pages, you're more pessimistic than I am. :v:

Oh shit, I never did finish that report...
Ah well, maybe some day when I feel bored I'll look and say "hey, let's do that".
Reddit did a fake update a few months ago but all the ideas and balance changes were incredibly stupid, even by valve standards

What, did they do random critical hits?
What, did they do random critical hits?
A glasses. When equip: instantly kills every heavy on server.
Not even joking, if i remember correctly.
yeah, because valve cut its balls off
Well the reason EOTL is a flop because Mcvee let Valve Alienate the update which in some way destroy the whole meaning of "community"
EOTL was a flop because the community doesn't understand their place with community updates.
no it was a flop because valve removed the only gameplay affecting feature (that was actually in development!) for no reason and added duck journals
It would be a flop anyway. The expectations were to high. Even if they added the map, it wouldn't do the trick.
I don't think people's expectations wete that high, mine certainly weren't. I was expecting a nice video (which we got) along with a fun map, and maybe some weapons.
I could live with no weapons, I could've even lived with no Snowplow, but the dick journal bullshit makes me angry just by thinking about it, they fucked up so hard. It was a disgusting cashgrab based on a forced meme, and it came at the cost of actual content. That's why EotL (the update, not the video) is objectively awful.
Maybe by Two Cities timeframe he literally meant November? :pessimism:
Hes talking about the time it would literally take to build two cities

Something feels odd about that though. Looking at the workshop page for the Duck Journal makes me feel that this was planned before the Scream Fortress '14 update.

Did Valve plan this out? And did McVee know about these Duck Journals the whole time? That's my question
However, dropping Snowplow was inexcusable in my opinion
eotl more like end of the game
All I wanna say is that they don't really care about us
eotl more like end of the game
There was a time when some people thought that end of the line would be the last update, and we laughed at them because it was a community update based on SFM movie.
eotl more like end of the game
major update speculation more like minor update speculation
Snatching it from dankkit :

Going by this, we can expect an Update this or next week. Otherwise they'll be breaking records.
And please don't go "they will they hate us !! xxxddd"
The only difference to other years have been that in that long time where we usually get little to nothing, this year we literally almost got nothing.
Let's see if it pays out. Because this or next week you can expect it to be "The nite : like a movie scene, in your sweetest dream."

will it finally happen
the localization file update of my dreams?
It's a personal peeve, but I really can't stand how people overlook the Summer 2013 update when it comes to talking about major updates, whereas Robotic Boogaloo, End of the Line and stuff like the 119th update (literally a minor patch with only the Mercenary & co. badges added, most of the big balance changes came in a previous patch) are in there as the big content updates, used as arguments and examples...
Talk about blindly following the TF Wiki and the not-very-up-to-date TF2 official site. Why don't we take the absurd logic further and start listing the Saxxy awards as major updates, the way they're portrayed on teamfortress.com?
