Major Update Speculation XXVI: Much Ado About Nothing

I wonder what Valve thinks of the fact that 90% of the TF2 community reviles them.
what
the spy does like 35 damage per hit with the knife if it doesn't stab
no
. . . . . . backstabs can be done while on fire, you know. Can't backstab if you have a spycicle and in the same scenario, though.

The lack of major updates seems like a good answer to me

That's the cause, not the result.
You lose your knife if you get caught by fire and you leave ice bodies laying around reveling that you are close by. I say the downsides balance out being immune to fire for a few seconds.
great! now let's check out the same scenario with stock
You lose your life if you get caught by fire and you leave screaming bodies laying around reveling that you are close by.
oh.
Really now, how many times do you get away as a flaming spy when you've actively been detected by a nearby pyro?
And the statue thing. People will check their backs every five seconds even if they aren't directly aware of spies. That's a basic thing to do.
Really, there's literally zero reason to not equip the spycicle, especially considering there aren't any other decent knife to choose from.
(nobody trying to do their best ever chooses kunai/yer/earner because it gimps them to hell for benefits that never compensate enough)

YER actually does have it's uses, especially if there are a lot of stragglers on the enemy team and there are a ton of engineers wadded up in a nest to the point where stab-and-sap doesn't work.
As a spy main, I think that the spycicle is actually underpowered relative to stock since the cons of the ridiculously loud freezing which immediately gives away a spycicle is nearby, the frozen corpses (which are honestly far worse than the benefit of silent killfeed) and the loss of stabbing when ignited far outweighs the benefit of getting important picks while on fire in a last ditch effort. This is especially true if the pyro is actually good and is protecting important classes like medics. People lament it because when combined with the Dead Ringer's damage resistance and relative lack of flickering, it ends up being incredibly stupid, but it's definitely beatable and pretty terrible combined with stock watches since the two-second immunity isn't that helpful if the pyro knows how to make you either flicker or you attempted to spycicle while cloaking, wasting the two seconds being fully visible. This suggests that the Dead Ringer is the real problem with the loadout.
It's only good against players that don't know how to deal with it, like the Phlog is. When I play Pyro, I actually find handling spycicle spies easier than otherwise because I have less risk of being stabbed (which, on the flpside, I don't find hard to do when I am a spy against a pyro) so I can get up right in their face without worry.
yeah if you get backstabbed as a pyro chasing a spy, I think it's time to speculate again.
That's the cause, not the result.
I would hope, that Valve is working hard to bring forth some of the best updates for TF2 in the coming months, because of this. They know we hated EOTL; they're not dumb. They might want to get competitive out sooner (in beta, as testinglol revealed), which may just be residual nervousness from Valve who are working to make stuff awesome, but just haven't finished stuff.
In fact, that might be why we've been getting so many "beta" things.
Valve hasn't finished things, but they also don't want us to starve for content, so they just release it anyways.

It really isn't that hard to pull off against most pub pyros, to be honest, since if you instantly change direction they usually don't recognize in time and the potential for getting facestabbed due to netcode when making direct contact is always present.
The Pomson 6000, Southern Hospitality, Huo-Long Heater (mostly if they are just abusing squatting on a dispenser in a corner), Jarate, Tribalman's Shiv and, heck, the Razorback are more effective anti-counter weapons against spy than the spycicle is an anti-counter weapon for spy.
EDIT: lol People dumbing me for this when I main spy and have played comp. People really need to learn how to play if they think spycicle is overpowered by any means.
TIL that the 'S' in 'MUS' stands for 'Spycicle'.
MUS is general chat now.
general chat might be dammed.

The only knife that is not good is the Big Earner. Kunai you can get a cornerstab or other sort of stab on a pyro that catches you and not only is the pyro dead, but oh look you're at full health. On top of this, it is amazing for chain stabbing a payload cart. Huo Long Heatmaker heavies make the spycicle incredibly awful for taking them out, since they are often key targets and the spycicle will usually melt. YER is pretty good if you know how to use it and the stock knife is nice simply because it has no downsides (as in disappearing for 10 seconds if you get touched by a flame particle) Also the spycicle is ridiculously loud. I rarely actually get backstabbed by spycicle spies if they've backstabbed anyone near me as the crunching sound it makes can be heard from halfway across the entire map.
I often use the kunai if i'm playing on defense and it is amazing.
Huo Long Heavies can be nullified with a little jump then stab. If they turn and you are not able to stab em, it's pretty much a lost battle. The knife is kinda weird, nullifies the Pyro counter and forces you to equip the sapper. Hey, 2 second inmunity can do wonders and deliver a great amount of revolver damage to the Pyro. But I don't know, it's a weird weapon and lacks tauntkill capabilities.
Heavies can be nullified by a cough and a wheeze these days.
Hey! Heavy can be useful! one time I managed a 25 killstreak as a Heavy on dustb... Oh. One time a dude told me "If you play Heavy without a Medic, you are pretty much useless"

then give us something to speculate about.
maybe someone can come in and tell us they know something but won't tell us anything again.
here's my speculation: if the next major update doesn't involve a part 2 of weapon balance changes, then valve can fuck off. we need more than bandaids to fix the gaping wounds of this game. moon cactus maps be damned.
Will matchmaking work the first day? or it will be like MvM? It will ask for a minimum playtime to make one allowed to play a ranked game? Will incorpore ELO or the thing that CS:GO uses?
We could receive something so pretty that makes other matchmaking systems look ugly or receive something non-functional and lost a big portion of the players.

Or we can just use TF2 General Chat and wait until we get something to actually speculate about.

Heavy is useless. The end.
I know you guys are kinda joking but I'm not really sure that Sniper is needed to counter Heavy anymore. Heavy just doesn't feel like he needs a hard counter like he used to.

How about; we just don't post if there's nothing to speculate.

I wouldn't go that far. He definitely needs MAJOR buffs but he's still viable in pubs in the right hands, especially with good usage of steak+killing gloves of boxing/holiday punch or fists-of-steel/gloves-of-running-urgently managing. (Heck, SteaKGB is one of the most fun loadouts in the game, imo)
I definitely want to see him be back to original form though, especially when it comes to the weapon switch glitch.
If live TF2 becomes a flop, then at least we still have TF2C to go to.

I'm not trying to be mean and I have nothing but respect for the tf2c Dev's and all, but I just can't take it seriously as a replacement for tf2, especially since they kept random crits which is one of the main things driving me away from tf2
Newsflash: Dota 2 has random crits out the ass. Here's an example, Phantom Assassin's ultimate. Dota 2 is so much more heavily based on RNG, but I don't see people bitching that much about it?
Whelp, its almost 9:00 where i live.
It looks like there wont be an update today afterall.

You sorta answered your own question there
Dota 2 is so much more heavily based on RNG
Also DOTA players are fucking trash and should be burned alive and you should not listen to their opinions

I don't play Dota or any MOBAS for that matter random crits have always been dumb for shooters and playing more competitively balanced shooters like dirty bomb and counter strike has made me feel confident that random crits are about as necessary to tf2 as the duck journal. listen I don't want to start a random crits debate but I just don't like a game mechanic so detrimental to teamwork and player improvement that you have to turn it off to play the game seriously. I have nothing but respect for everyone working on tf2c, they are doing something they believe in and I respect that but from what I've seen its going in a direction that i don't personally agree with
