So a halloween update being shit really just comes down to "sd_doomsday sucks balls" ??
I believe the cp_manor event is generally regarded as the best halloween update because of the map and boss -cp_manor is both fun to play on, and visually pleasing -The Boss is fun to fight and doesn't force gameplay to a stop by forcefully locking the point, and was actually pretty scary if you knew he was after you compared to Monoculous' rocket spam, and the random shit Merasmus would do Eyeaduct was alright, but monoculous wasn't as fun to fight compared to the HHH, and started the trend of forcing the point to lock until he either leaves, or is defeated, but otherwise its an enjoyable update. I actually really liked the Ghostfort update. Merasmus was kinda boring to fight, but I really liked the wheel of fate, and Wave 666 is pretty fun. The spells and voodoo souls were cool gift ideas as well. Helltower was a big dissapointment for me due to the map choice, and the Skeleton King being a really boring boss. The spells I feel were the only thing I liked about the update. and then halloween 2014 suffered the same thing by just being a boring update on a generally unfun map. Bumper cars were cool for a bit, but I feel they got stale quickly. I don't think the updates were shit, but I thought they were kinda underwhelming coming from the other 3 updates. But yeah, these are just my 2 cents on the halloween updates
We are releasing our anger in wrong place people, Remember what happend when people got angry about diretide or paid steam mods Valve listened to commmunity... These days Valve seems to barely care unless some kind of big pressure from customers happens I'm not saying we should do things the rough and spamish way like people in diretide did, but perhaps we could create online petition and send that to Valve or GabeN? That's the only way i see communication with Valve these days sadly...
Thing is (and this is going to sound harsh)... No-one outside of the TF2 community really cares about the fact we haven't had an update in six+ months or what have you. Paid mods not only had the Skyrim mod community up in arms, but people in general because of it possibly happening to other games as well.
If Hoodoo is a serious contender for halloween, I hope the normal version can be updated to prevent teleporter exits from being built in spawn.
If Hoodoo is a serious contender for Halloween, I will be mad at Valve for using such terrible maps.
So a halloween update being shit really just comes down to "sd_doomsday sucks balls" ??
There's alot more to it than that: -The Halloween gifts were removed, thus only making 6 items available without paying - The event map was buggy and un-optimized - The Halloween Haunted Stranges only counted kills during the quick-non-bumper part of the map, making it tedious to level up any of the stuff they want you to level up - Unlike other events, with the free gifts and MONOCULOUS getting more powerful part-way through, the entire event was: -get the 3 items, then there's no replay-ability - Half of the cosmetics as 2013 - For other Halloween maps, the cooldown time for gifts was over 3 hours - None of Heartsman's item were accepted *weeps* - The comic posted hours before the event makes it seem like the event was about killing players to summon Bonzo (The map showed the Strongmann next to a giant Bonzo Statue, and having to kil players to make him pleased.) - No boss fight. -Bonzo in the comic is a clown, while in game is a re-color of Meramus's pit (????) -The map has very MINIMAL re-themeing , almost all work was put into the skybox. Literally Doomsday with lights, even though Merasmus mentions evil carnival rides and a ticket booth - The entire minecart section of the map is left un-touched. Why isn't it a evil roller coaster?
diretide and paid mods were presumably much larger events with naturally much larger backlash. The closest tf2 has gotten to that was EOTL which left valve with a massive slash on their back with "snowplow" etched in their skin. You can't just stand in a crowd yelling you want them to go back to frequent updates, valve knows they'll get money whether or not they listen. If you want to rile up the community, valve has to fuck something up to catch their attention. The issue is, they aren't doing anything and therefore have nothing to complain about besides the fact that they aren't doing anything. You could argue the comics are late but it's not like the game developer part of valve has any part in that anyways
How did EOTL impact valve in any way, there wasnt a single response from valve, for all we know they just saw the sales and gave themselves a pat on the back for pressing the launch button on the hats they didnt even make.
If Hoodoo is a serious contender for Halloween, I will be mad at Valve for using such terrible maps.
Hydro actually needs some love.
They seem to pick haloween maps for being stalematey deathmatch pits to focus on the gimmicks so hydro actually fits the bill quite nicely
They seem to pick haloween maps for being stalematey deathmatch pits to focus on the gimmicks so hydro actually fits the bill quite nicely
No, they pick the map based on how annoying mini-sentries are to fight on it. They only pick maps that are more annoying than the previous. Seriously: Harvest Event: Despite being open, isn't too bad with Mini-Sentries, it was also made before Minis even existed. Mann Manor: Had a few annoying mini spots but again wasn't too bad Eyeaduct: This is where it really started, Minis were somewhat annoying Ghost Fort: Minis cover a lot of the map and are mildly annoying Helltower: Minis are are annoying fucksticks that can cover almost the entire map Carnival: Minis cover the ENTIRE rocket area and ruin the map completely
I think this all comes down to the fact that Valve was probably started by the biggest nerds in the US (later the world) and designed an organizational structure that left no one feeling lower or weaker so no body would feel like they all did in high school when the big football player came along to punch them in the face for being a nerd. However, this led to every nerd being equal, which led to a vicious nerd cycle to compete for ultimate nerdhood which, in turn, develops a type of nerd often called the ÜberNerd, one which tries exceedingly hard, but in the end accomplishes fuck all later in the ÜberNerd's life cycle. This, along with the ÜberNerds' tendency to never go outside or talk to real people, explains the extreme lack of effort put into communicating with the people who are giving them several million dollars a year. The end result is a large colony of ÜberNerds constantly struggling to do ANYTHING, but with no natural predators nor lack of food for winter, the need to strive and work all day is diminished. The obvious solution is to send me and 11 or so other giant men to Valve HQ and show those nerds whats what.
The halloween map will be called "tc_hydrought" , where everything is exactly the same as hydro except for some discarded ducks and medals lying around.

Hydrophobia: each section is based around different common phobias
Hydrophobia: each section is based around different common phobias
Dude I'm Minisentryphobic that would give me a heart attack Next you'll start subjecting people to the Highlander Heavy for fun
Dude I'm Minisentryphobic that would give me a heart attack
that's a funny way of spelling dotaphobic
that's a funny way of spelling dotaphobic
I don't fear doters I hate doters
The halloween map will be called "tc_hydrought" , where everything is exactly the same as hydro except for some discarded ducks and medals lying around.
I wonder how many abandoned ideas could fit into one map tc_hydro with doomsday's gamemode and medieval mode on
-snip- minisentry rage -snip-

How did EOTL impact valve in any way, there wasnt a single response from valve, for all we know they just saw the sales and gave themselves a pat on the back for pressing the launch button on the hats they didnt even make.
It really sounds like you guys have a lot of unresolved tension.
It really sounds like you guys have a lot of unresolved tension.
Are you saying that doomsday isn't ruined by minis?
Hydro actually needs some love.
At least make Hydro quickplay. :/ i can't find a server playing hydro ever.
to be fair, looking at last year's halloween update, we wouldn't really be missing much if they do what they did for dota, and skip the halloween update entirely to get more work in on something a whole lot better (in dota's case, the source 2 port) then i don't think i'd complain at all
That is, if they actually get to work on that big something and not just use it as an excuse.
I don't fear doters I hate doters
I fear and hate the doters. Dota is my communism :(
I fear and hate the doters. Dota is my communism :(
That's because dota is based on communist ideology
Say No-ta to Dota
At least make Hydro quickplay. :/ i can't find a server playing hydro ever.
Valve has pretty much completely ignored Territorial Control, along with Medieval, like they don't exist. I've emailed them numerous times about it but no one seems to care they are literally phasing maps out of the game.
I wonder how many abandoned ideas could fit into one map tc_hydro with doomsday's gamemode and medieval mode on
How could you consider Doomsday abandoned? The last finished map we got was Doomsday! Again! :suicide:
But there's a better version of Hyrdo. =( http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=455637916 Valve make this official please!
