They 'regularly select' cosmetics from the Workshop to be sold in the Mann Co. Store, too. They just don't put them there until they've got an update to ship.

There's a few established community maps missing, besides Swiftwater I'm also missing koth_arctic, cp_croissant, koth_railbridge, to name a few.

Yeah it seems like some fairly proment community maps have not yet been added to the workshop, possibly because the map authors don't closely follow TF2 anymore and don't know about the workshop. I may try to contact some of them and suggest they upload their map.
I wonder how the author receives benefits if their map is accepted into the game. stamps?
First there's the initial amount from Valve when they buy the map from the author (there was talk of $7000 per map, I believe), and then there's the income from stamps. Which, while definitely worse than the income from cosmetics sales, apparently and surprisingly still amounts to thousands or at least hundreds of dollars per month. Though it's possible that stamp sales income like that was only a couple of years ago, when community maps were added more regularly and stamps were a new thing. Seems like they're kinda forgotten now.

Yes this is correct, the map maker who made Process and Standin said he got paid $7000 per map from Valve, plus several thousand to several hundred a month for map stamps. Also I was playing a game with Y__M (who made Hoodoo and Mann Manor) a few months ago on the TF2maps.net server and he said he still makes about $1000 a month on map stamps, so while map stamp sales aren't super high they can still be a good amount of money.
Just for the people which still have doubts about the steam summersale thing.

Pretty sure that Keys were never on sale, we just got a free one back in Aussie Christmas 2010, but that was pre-free-to-play.
I think you might have Tour od Duty tickets in mind, those were like half price at one time.

Seeing as Baby Face's Blaster, the pistol from that set were all added in 2012.

To be fair there's only a handful of taunts that in my opinion fit the game thematically and are well done enough to be even considered for the game.
I sure hope the Mercs Vs Aliens thing comes to TF2. I loved some of the maps that came as a result of the mapping contest.

Shit as it is, it does technically qualify. Funny that the first weapon he gets in years is probably the worst weapon in the whole game

this made me think of steam like Wreck it Ralph's game central, the Tf2 mercs sitting outside their door looking really depressed. Someone goes up and asks what's going on and they point to all the new bugs, soldier holding up the rocket launcher, shotgun and shovel up at the same time with one hand, unable to drop them. Heavy bitches about how they make him refer to himself in third person despite being pretty smart, scout runs around stuck in high five pose and pyro puts all the baloonicorn, pyroland and randumb hats in a pile and burns it all spitefully.

All my bets on at least some buffs on the news weapons( Airstrike, Classic, Panic Attack & both demo winter weaps)

Blistering Summer Update
- Added 25 new Cosmetics (for each class)
- Added Water Balloon all-class weapon.
- Finished artpassing RD_Asteroid and removed it from Beta.
- Finished PL_CactusCanyon and removed it from Beta.
- Added 4 new maps; KOTH_Trainsawlazer, PL_Swiftwater, TC_Meridian, and TR_Walkway.
- Fixed the Strange Dalokohs Bar not counting times eaten.
- Introducing competitive* matchmaking beta!
- Added 3 new Soldier weapons, One fo each slot. Each one is a sidegrade, except for one buff. This one everyone loves. It will be nerfed to shit tomorrow.
- Added 1 new Medigun for testing. Will change often** in the coming months. It exchanges patient's ammo for crits.
- Added 1 Scout melee reskin.
- Reverted an earlier nerf for the Stickybomb Launcher. You can now taunt and attack at the same time.
- Demoman shields now have +25% base resistance against fire. The Charge'n Targe make's you invicible to it.
- Half-Zatoichi now has a 35% higher crit chance by default, but cannont be crit-boosted in any other way.
- Buffed Shotgun damage by 10%
- Re-combined the Escape Plane and Equalizer. New name: The Great Equalizer. Sorry for earlier, Tom and Jibberish!
- Buffed Minigun clipsize and damage by 25%
- Added 5 new taunts available only at the Mann.co store for 15 USD! (Also a 75% discount for the Steam Sale)
- Reduced all Mann Co. store prices by 25% for the next month. An additional 35% will be applied to certain items types each week.
- The Heavy's movespeed has been increased by 15%
- Added "Two-tone Journal", A Multi-class (Spy/Engineer) Action item as a Ultra-Rare drop to the drop list.
- Updated localization files
