Major Update Speculation XXVI: Much Ado About Nothing

im at the airport about to get on a plane to the us and a bloody update comes out ... Well you guys enjoy it
you are picking up HIS weapon that is equipped.
So its like a scout using a FaN who kill a Soda Popper scout can pick up that scout's soda popper and use that as their weapon instead.
But how would that even work? That'd completely mess up the game and make it unplayable.
how it would work is you swap to that weapon you just picked up as if you hit a respawn cabinet
everyone is expecting it to mess up the game already
chances are most of the time the people you kill won't even be your class so you can't pick up their stuff
I've not read all 400 posts so forgive me if I'm getting the wrong impression but I'm slightly confused why people are happy about this update?
Gameplay wise it's just balance changes (quite a few of them.. questionable.. at first glance but we'll see) and a map.
Is there something I'm missing? It's basically just hats for your guns. I really wish it had been $5.99 for entry into the competitive mode rather than $5.99 into whatever this contract thing is where as a reward I'll just be getting dupes of weapons I already own as stranges (so why would I want to switch over?)
EDIT: That said if the competitive beta has a surprise launch tomorrow alongside the update I'll be 100% happy.

Several maps, and some balances folks wanted (I gladly accept the mini sentry balances despite being a mini sentry user) and an inclusion of CS:GO type weapon cosmetics along with "modern" shooter ideas of being able to pick up enemy weapons (being classed locked of course...so dont worry that scout using a flamethrower is actually a glitch, not the feature :V)
-snip, beaten-

Long-overdue and desired balance changes. 4 maps. Ugly hats for guns. A few taunts. The buy-in contracts are being used to pay the map makers. Comic was comical.
It's an update drought, the fact that we've gotten anything is going to be met with praise.
Gun Mettle update announced:
It adds to tf2: Skins,Taunts,Hats, cp_Snowplow, and weapon changes, new gameplay thingies
Basically tf2 meets cs go
Remember when valve patched out the team colored chargin' targe because it slightly fucked with color readibility of Demoman?

yeah cool

what if the update draught was a secret plan to make us gloss over these atrocious skins?

I'm going to suppose those are going to be at least team colored.
Alright fair enough on the balance changes if people wanted them - guess that's just a personal issue with it - but it's not really four maps, is it. I (and a lot of others) have already played on three of them. Pretty sure most people agreed when we said previously that community maps, while good (and they definitely are) aren't really proper meat of an update.

The thing that comes best from the inclusion of more maps is that they become more popular. Lots of servers curl up and die when a custom rotation starts. It's more manageable to get people to play a newly-included map than it is to get them to play the same map but they have to download it before connecting to the server.
There's a masked convenience of the map being downloaded before even playing, it's a silly psychological trick but it does a lot to people's perception.
It's pretty much everything I wanted from an update at this point
I'm a huge hat whore, so I'm excited for weapon hats
Spy was buffed, and I don't care much for Dead Ringer
New maps look sick.
Hopefully the update also has a new hat chest, with hats that go over your head, not gun
Would be cool if we can throw our weapons (with damages)
Wondering if these skins were what testinglol hid from us all this time :v:

I think these are my most preferred
NOT SURPRISING THE ONLY GOOD LOOKING ONES ARE THE ONES THAT FOLLOW TF2'S RUSTIC PALETTE
"let's put gamebanana skins in the game and make them available through a cosmetic system copy pasted from the game that single handedly ruined online gaming, and make the comic artists take a break from the next issue to promote it"
there's no hope
I agree that the more muted colours are much more appealing, but tf2's fanbase speaks for itself. I mean when people go out of their way to make themselves look as eye burning as possible what is valve really expected to do, except give people what they want. Some of the skins look really jaded and retro-futuristic, like something you'd see on some douchebag's car. I kinda like them.

If we follow your reasoning the next logical thing to do is add Pony playermodels.
So...no hats?
I think this update is mostly just a feedback update, which is why we're so excited. They actually listened to us. Seriously, just look at it:
More customization for weapons (wanted by a good portion of the community)
Balance changes (including no spread off by default)
New Maps, including 3 community maps (snowplow)
More taunts, including a heavy taunt (and some others most of us wanted)
Seriously, this is basically what we wanted to see from an update. I also believe that some bug changes might sneak their way through the rest of the update as well.
The only thing I hope is that they'll revert the "CHANGE YOH LOADOUT ON THE FLY" thing.
I can bear the constant rape of the art style. While the art style is nice, it's not what makes up the game.
But changing the loadout? That is something that comes directly from CS:GO but without any of the context of CS:GO. Imagine if tomorrow they decided to remove healthpacks so that you can play with regenerating health. It'd be the same thing.

we need to start a petition or something, sure it may not actually matter but getting the numbers in support might show valve some proper feedback.
I hope they at least make it a console command controlled thing, so certain servers can disable weapon pick up, kinda like how servers can enable taunt switching.

Petitions have never worked, and Valve doesn't care anyway so it's kind of useless.

Depends on the person, to me maps are the most important part of major updates, and new community maps are nearly as important as new Valve maps because that means many more servers will actually run the maps instead of the very few servers that run custom maps.
(I misread a post, ignore)
I hope they'll add wep skins to support TF2 LANs and Leagues, tho

Not exactly the same thing.
It's a very nice gimmick but in context of TF2 a rather useless one. When you pick your weapon in your loadout, you mean to stick to it. I don't know if there are ammo packs in CSGO/any way to replenish ammo, so you may have to pick guns up to keep running. Also the guns cost money and you're sorta pressured to pick different ones from what I gather, we have full freedom in our loadouts.
Seems to me more useful as "oh cool, this guy brought his MLP-plastered rocket launcher, gonna grab it, dominate him with it and throw it into a dumpster, that'll teach him to like what I don't"
Not really seeing degreaser pyros picking stock flamers up or vice versa. We like our too loadouts much to change them on the fly like that for meaningful purposes. Also we respawn unlike CSGO guys so as the match goes, we can easily adapt. Most lives don't last more than two minutes, matches last like thirty.
Health regen would directly override medkits, medics, and a whole bunch of other stuff. It'd be much more nasty.
Oh cool, Borneo is now an official map, guess i can just put that in the trash.
