I'd love this. Maybe make them cost more than keys? And a bit of profit from the item goes to the creator who made the item you used it on?
Or just buying the item from the store?
If you buy a Halloween item from the store it doesn't have Halloween restriction? Seems unfair to the ones who've bought Halloween restricted items in the store before.

people need stop asking for a way to unrestrict restricted cosmetics
either unrestrict certain ones for all or leave them be. Giving players a tool to get an unrestricted version is stupid because it completely counterracts the fact restrictions are in place to NOT BE UNRESTRICTED
All this talking about unrestricting restricted items when we do have servers that happily allow folks to wear their Halloween items all year long...
And valve did add an item that folks could vote it to be Halloween so you can use those items if you want to on their servers.
I don't think we can trust the blog post image to be related to the update's content.
Like 2012 where they've shown this on the blog post:

While they weren't related to the halloween event whatsoever.
Then again, that was showed 50 days before Halloween, not 4 days.

Don't forget this little bit from the update 8 days ago:
- Fixed not being able to wear Halloween-restricted cosmetic items on Halloween maps outside of the regular Halloween and Fullmoon events
I expect in the future for there to be some sort of way for custom map makers to do something similar for their own maps. pl_moonlit comes to mind as a community-made Halloween-themed map that doesn't abide by this new rule just yet since it's not officially a Halloween map.

i believe there already is a holiday ent that chooses whether or not a map is in halloween mode in hammer editor. it would make sense that they tied it to this.
no way to test until after the event is over though, unless someone tried some computer magic.
Judging by those hands. The puppet is a female. What if Merasmus was so lonley that he made himself a Puppet Wife?
or maybe just some puppet hands.. :quagmire:
If the update turns out being marionette-themed
It'd be cool if this years "voodoo souls" made the mercenaries into wooden puppets
the good thing about last year's halloween is that contributors finally realised how they should use the halloween tag and what they should do with it.
and that is also thanks to the xenoscout set for showing us how far things can be pushed with a halloween restriction.
As i said, guys, just use eternaween. It's 3 cents.

That works when other players actually bother to vote for it.

I've never been on a server when people have voted no. It always get's a yes in my experience.

"not enough players voted"

From my experience people almost always vote against kicking a hacker if he's in their team. Or don't vote at all, which is equally as terrible.
if it isnt a carnival map ill be pissed

I'd still prefer Halloween-Vision.
