Please excuse my unexplained absence, I've been working and stuff.
Speaking of work, I'm currently working on updating the Shugo icon tutorial, so people will finally know the dark well-kept secret of making these spectacular icons. (Also so people can voluntarily help us.)
Also here's a teaser icon:

Yeah, probably just for that one, though, as I liked it more.
I've been wanting to help "Shugo-ify" some icons for a while. Can't wait for the tutorial! :D
So the Summer 2013 icons are done, just need to finish the Fall 2013 icons...

I feel so sorry for you
I'm surprised you carry on. Updates of this size will keep happening, I think you're doomed.
[editline]23rd October 2013[/editline]
Though about half the Fall 2013 icons are already done so it's not that bad...?

That's why I'll eventually finish the tutorial, so others can help out, somehow.
Also since contributors (you) have actually started to use the Shugo angle, that makes my job a whole lot easier.

Yeah, he's doomed now.
i don't wanna talk about it
Well, I am sure myself and others would like to help contribute when you get some materials to us.
Why can't you guys who want to help just the old guide, anyway
http://tf2b.com/blog/?p=192
afaik nothing's changed since then
you can use these for easy doll heads, and they're also useful for items with screwed rotation origins (set skin to 1):
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/900111/shugo_hacks.rar
also make sure to use the "front facing" angle for everything, there is no longer a unique angle for items attached to player heads (for some reason)
Is there a list of items icons to be shugo'd? (That is even a valid word?) of course, leaving aside all the item added in this update.
I will try to make some icons, I need to get back to modding in TF2. I guess this should be a good start.
The XYZ camera stuff didnt work for me when I tried Shugo'n my Young Frankenstein hair. I moved on and never revisited trying to fix it. Any ideas?

2 changes we made was that we use Photoshop instead of GIMP, and we don't use the green method, anymore. We now use an alpha method.

Nope, basically everything with this Halloween update is what needs to be done. (I'm almost finished with the Fall update.)

Did you put it on a Shugo head?
Oh, I always ignored the GIMP steps and used PS anyway.
I suppose the alpha method could stand to be documented, I'm kinda lazy and just take a huge screenshot, use the magic wand and downscale it to icon size. Looks perfect.
I'd only recommend spending time on the alpha method for items with transparent bits, makes this take unnecessarily longer.
I did use the shugo heads.

I did document it and it hardly takes longer.
In fact, I found it faster.
well you're weird then, there's no way it's faster
[editline]30th October 2013[/editline]
it's like 5 clicks versus 15 clicks
which really mounts up with 100 items
Well I did make a script to automate it.
But yeah, fair.
I prefer quality to taking a long time.
That's stupid, end result is indistinguishable. Tell me if there's a dodgy outline on any of the icons I've had added recently, there isn't.
I'd love to help for that but the only way for me to use HLMV is TFMV and it doesn't support regedit editing.
What's wrong with Source SDK?
Who made TFMV? BANG? We should get him to make it do Shugo icons.
Yep, BANG! made TMFV.
Oh thats why I couldnt get the HLMV regedit thing to work, was using TFMV.
If you're talking about the rotations and positions, you can do them through TFMV (I use it for the TF2 wiki images). It's set up slightly wrong though, which I've covered in this post over in the TFMV thread:
So I know this thread hasn't been posted in for a few weeks, but I recently discovered a bug regarding the Camera Position and Camera Rotation options.
Both them appear to only work properly one slot to the left. So say you wanted an item to have a Camera Position of 20, -40, 100, and then a Camera Rotation of 0, 80, -60. If you wanted those to work properly when put into the boxes on the settings page, the numbers in the boxes for the Camera Position would have to go -40, 100, 20, and the Camera Rotation would have to go 80, -60, 0.
I can try to provide screenshots of this if it doesn't make much sense.
You can't do lighting or anything through TFMV, though. Just the camera position, rotation, and background colour. Unless I've missed something.
Happy Thanksgiving, here's a treat.
