Now that i know how to make icons, i feel like i can help for this project. Just 2 questions: 1- Can you help me erasing the background? When i erase it Paint.net AND Gimp, there are annoying borders around the item, so i have to waste my time erasing those borders. 2- How do i get the mannequins?
1) Let me tell you as a guy who tried making icons with Paint.NET and GIMP, try to upgrade to Photoshop, it is miles easier to make icons with. (Translation: I don't know, sorry.) 2) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/32066954/shugo_heads.rar

I used to use coloured backgrounds, but I had the same problem and it took 20 minutes of my time to make it look decent. If you use a completely white background in model viewer, paint.net'll remove it right away and your model is still there. Tada.

I made the Dapper Disguise icon, any thoughts? And yes, i did use Photoshop for that one, its 10x better than GIMP and Paint.net [editline]19th March 2013[/editline] Wait a minute, i opened the picture in VTFedit and... [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/gTFxQW.png[/t] What in the actually shitty fuck Help me, is there something i am doing wrong?
Help me, is there something i am doing wrong?
That's fine, go to "View" and click "Mask" and your transparency will still be there. Or press CTRL+M to see your mask.
That's fine, go to "View" and click "Mask" and your transparency will still be there. Or press CTRL+M to see your mask.
Oh cool, thanks. [editline]19th March 2013[/editline] So, i loaded the icon in-game, and it has visible lime borders. Ceiling man, how do YOU even remove borders? I used the Magic eraser tool.

As Shugo once said, "I personally usually tilt it so that the ‘light source’ is coming from the top right of the area...", experiment with lighting, see what looks good. Right now, it looks flat. 3) Your mannequin seems to be angled wrong, did you use (25.276474 -38.199379 -18.572231)? (don't use (20.509777 -36.658028 -14.614809)) 4) I see a green outline on your icon, the Shugo Team™ no longer uses that technique, we now use alpha channels and the "Difference" blend. If you need me to elaborate on that, I could. 5) Your .vtf doesn't have "No Level Of Detail" and "No Minimum Mipmap" chcked, follow Step 7 of the Shugo guide. We'll talk tomorrow since i have to go sleep in a few minutes.
When...? :(
When...? :(
Soon, there's many different things delaying us at the moment.
Is this currently up to date?
Is this currently up to date?
A few icons aren't made, it was last updated at Christmas 2012 And Ceilingman, what happened to that tutorial you promised me?
I invented the Difference method. What do you need to know?
I invented the Difference method. What do you need to know?
I know everything, but i need to learn how to make an icon transparent without leaving borders.
A few icons aren't made, it was last updated at Christmas 2012 And Ceilingman, what happened to that tutorial you promised me?
Crap, sorry about that. [editline]18th April 2013[/editline]
I invented the Difference method. What do you need to know?
Might as well ask the guy who made it. :p
I know everything, but i need to learn how to make an icon transparent without leaving borders.
That was exactly what I just asked you about. Do you need me to tell you everything? I did a tutorial AGES ago. Let me see if I can find it. [editline]18th April 2013[/editline] Can't find it, but I have the images. Essentially, you take 2 images of the same item but with a pure black and pure white background. Then you paste both into the same PS document. Change the blending mode of the top layer to Difference. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/897064/cutout%20tut/DifferenceMode.png[/t] You'll see this [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/897064/cutout%20tut/BlackGlasses.png[/t] Switch to channels mode [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/897064/cutout%20tut/Channels.png[/t] Ctrl click on any layer, and then return to the default layers delete the content that you selected from one of the layers. Delete the other layer and then you have a perfect cut out! Note that the glass is also semi-transparent.
Yup, you got it right, but I remember you telling me to have a 3rd brown (52 47 41) layer, which I still use. I should really talk to Athernar about updating the old Shugo tutorial page.
Cool, thanks Smashman! <3 I'll start doing icons this weekend, cause i can't open my computer on school days anymore. :/

That's the default backpack color, which means that translucent stuff will look best against it.
I made the Conspiracy Cap icon: Well, sounds like it turned out well, but when i try to put it in-game, it doesn't want to work, isn't the Conspiracy Cap's file all_class_reddit?
you gotta turn normal mapping on
you gotta turn normal mapping on
What the fuck Why do i always forget to do that :suicide:
you gotta turn normal mapping on
Also, the angle seems a bit off. But my eyes could just be playing tricks on me.
Also, the angle seems a bit off. But my eyes could just be playing tricks on me.
I used (25.276474 -38.199379 -18.572231) Also i need a list of the items that still doesn't have an icon if you want me to speed up the project.
Did you make sure to set the FOV to 15?
Oh damn, forgot that :V I just can't forget everything like that. And let's not spam this thread a lot, we'll discuss on Steam.
