Am I missing something? painterly was the fillter that the decals used to make the texture of your image more tf2ish, sometimes ruining the original image itself. You can still put whatever you want on your stuff, just without that painterly film being applied to it.

The recent beta changes have leveled all 3 flamethrowers to a more usable state in three ways:
Flamethrower is no longer strictly worse than the Backburner
Backburner no longer has that blue text that encouraged a mentality to use it for general fighting
The Degreaser gets an actual "downside" to appease the whiners (despite it hardly changing at all)

The Backburner is Flamethrower without airblast, so they removed the airblast, then they added it back.
You should really do some brainstorming before quoting the wiki or anything.
