On the miscs you can drag the gradient at the bottom left all the way left and it gives you full colour. No loopholes in GCFs necessary.

The bug used to work like that...
First you mod your items.txt
there you can point what your item can do, so you could say that is paintable, etc...
the game will check with the item schema if what your file say is true, but the overlay stuff check is client side.
set your host file in system 32 to redirect the trafic from steam to your own IP so when the game checks, it will check you "own item schema".
point in the items.txt file that clan pride and photo badge USE an overlay.
create your overlay file with an image of your choice and point that file name in the items.txt.
revert your host file in windows so you don't have problems like friends pictures not loading correcly.

The Flair! was made over a year ago, the other two are much more recent.
The medal is supposed to be the Maverick Hunters' logo from the Mega Man X series, but because of phong it's pretty much invisible without DX8

It's a common bug. Sometimes you even get decals from other people on the server on your items.
