You didn't really save that much.
Find a guy with <100 hours and a Hound Dog. "This player does not have trading privileges at this time." :C
Missed him. Means he shut off the game before you managed to get to him. Refresh the list somewhat often. The people at the top are the newest people to join the server. I check in three person increments to keep things organized. To simplify and to refrain from memorizing names, I scroll down until the next name comes into view. Eh, I'm kind of sick of TF2 right now. I could tell you everything I know, but it all comes down to luck, and people skills. The absolute worst thing you can do is shooting up a trade and asking something stupid like "Any hats?". It's VERY annoying when this happens to me, I shut down the trade almost immediately. Pinpoint exactly what you want to trade for. Use alibis such as "I've been looking for this hat for a while now, I've been trading tons of people for it". Granted, that may blow your cover, but if the person is sympathetic you may even get it for free. New weapons are always valuable to a non trader. If the person has Refined metal in his inventory, some playtime and a few craftable hats, you may want to leave it. This means that the person is aware of crafting, and has probably crafted/ is aiming to craft weapons they want. Another good tip is to beat around the bush rather than asking for something immediately. This means to ask for a vague description of the item rather than its name, or to ask for the class of the item if you find the person aware enough to locate it through that. The only reason you can give for asking for something immediately is if they equip it. On that note, equipped items are probably worth more to the player. Also, this means that the item may have already been exposed to other players who know the price. Not always the case. You should never be afraid to send a trade, but some people obviously are not able to be scammed. Keep in stock. Have a copy of every weapon, and it helps to have a lot of unique hats as well. This does not mean having many Gibuses/Ellis Caps, but rather having a lot of different hats. Remember, you can always save the person to find the item they are looking for. Major example, Cpn Crunch got a Max Head for a Baker Boy, which I could have gotten if I acted fast enough. On that note, act as quick as possible. Don't lose a trade because the person leaves too early. Trade people at their deaths. If you feel the person is going to stay for the whole round, trade them after a round. A player is less inclined to enter the battlefield right after a round has started, unless they are playing Defense. Don't be discouraged if your trade is declined. This means that the person has either received many trades already for the item, or simply does not care. If that is the matter, then consider the item nonexistent. If you can't get it, no one can, and it will never enter the aware market. Though, you can always sweet talk them into trading. It may be a little hard to pull off, but the right words may get you some nice things. In the trade, be respectful and friendly. Something like, "Sorry to bother you", or "I'll try to make this quick so you can get back to the game", or "Give me a few moments of your time please". Playtime plays a role in awareness, but some players may have boatloads of stuff that they don't care about. I got four hats out of this drunk guy who had around 2000 hours of playtime. It helps to find out what their favorite class is, so if they state that they don't know what they want, you can offer easily. Keep at it and you'll find yourself handsomely rewarded. Oh, and also, it helps to have metal to make replacement weapons. If you get a trade with huge profit, it doesn't hurt to scrap bank for more weapons. In around two weeks of active scamming, I have gotten this. http://www.tf2items.com/id/Zorusisactuallypyrophobic. Notably four Bill's and some Buds. I lose interest a lot and get distracted by the game. I have hit my goal of a hat for every class, but ever so often I get greedy and want some more. Some of the stuff may be rather vague, actually, let me expand on "scanning". Scanning is made up of checking a whole server's backpack manually. To do so, you press Shift + Tab in game, click on "View Players", clicking on the profiles and entering them one by one into an backpack examiner. What works the best for me is tf2items.com, tf2b is nice, but may take a while to load. Also, with tf2items, after clicking on the URL, you can easily copy the entire URL rather than tediously using the steamid, which can come with bothersome errors if performed incorrectly. That's it. Everything I know compiled into one guide. Happy trails. I hope this helped, some of the content has already been said, though I hope I improve your efficiency. Feel free to correct/expand on this. I attempted to sway from tips already posted in the OP, but some of the information I listed is almost vital to the whole experience. Note: Some people find the word "scam" immoral and dastardly. I use it the jargon sense we have applied to it, it's moreover taking advantage of people.
what was his unusual and name? i'll see if i can talk him out of it
nah i doubt it
wait, so the new vintage weapons are worth how much? someone please answer
wait, so the new vintage weapons are worth how much? someone please answer
The new items are still in their early stages. You really can't find an exact price for them yet. From what I've seen, the price is quite high. I'm not going to advise anything, but I'm keeping mine for the time being, unless I get offered something extreme. Here's some of what people are offering. My first bills scam :buddy:
All vintage weapons once again. :buddy: That one was hard, had to trade him twice, then he left and I had to find his Steam Community profile, and he wanted post-Polycount weapons but I didn't have any. I regret giving a refined for the Steak now.
Helpful Guide
Wow, at least I know I've been doing the right things all along. :V Also, I don't call it scamming, I call it "Opportunistically Trading".
I just got my first unusual scam, too excited to screenshot it. V. Ushanka, V. Pyro beanie, Milkman, and Pyromancer's Mask for a Stash with Flies painted team spirit. Not a great unusual, but it's better than nothing. Is this a good trade?
I'm getting offered a genuine shogun set for 2 bills, buds, v luger and baker boy w/peace do?
I haven't had anything to trade for, so I've got a new goal. All vintage weapons. So far... I have 1. Jarate :v: aww yeah
I'm getting offered a genuine shogun set for 2 bills, buds, v luger and baker boy w/peace do?
Thats...about 5-6 buds. Better spent on a max head or something.
Could someone link me to a working backpack searcher?
