I don't get where people are getting this idea that Valve is being completely benevolent with these promos like they are free hand-outs to developers. Last time I checked you still have to buy the games on Steam. If they promote movies or music it won't be with TF2 for that very reason. >See Super 8

Promo items should have been un-tradable right when mann conomy update came out,they were supposed to promote the game,not be traded for 100's of dollars....

The way promo hats should have worked: 1. If you preorder it or buy it during the promotional time, or do whatever it is during that time(like go on a mac for earbuds), then you should get a genuine version of the item. 2. If you purchase the game or do the thing outside of that time, you just get a normal version of the item. This would change the economy to solely caring about the genuine versions for trading purposes, while allowing people who really enjoy a game but weren't able to get it during the time period to still acquire it. For example, I really like earbuds, they're such a neat item. They emit little musical notes and shit, which is awesome, plus they look kind of neat. However, getting them is a pain. I don't really care about an item being "genuine" or whatever, I just like it for it being the item it is. It's just kind of cool looking, and I wouldn't mind wearing it on a class because I enjoy and support the game it's for. This would satisfy everyone. Those who love a franchise or game but can't get the items they want because they missed a promotion and those who want to trade.

If Minecraft becomes a product on steam, I would hope notch would e-mail us codes for the steam versions. If we activate it, we get a steve, zombie, creeper, and skeleton hat for TF2

I think these promos are finally going in the right direction: I welcome the Genuine quality if means that everyone can get their favourite hat, even past promotion in Unique quality. I'd love if they could do something for the old promos (Bill's, Max, etc.).
