The problem I have with this argument is that if you're close enough to melee, you're close enough to light them up, and while they have some more warning it's not like they won't notice you axing them (a question). I just can't think of a reason why you'd take the possibility of random crits over guaranteed and easily obtained crits unless you're fighting another Pyro.
Underwater / near water. I play with the regular flamethrower, flare gun, and axetinguisher, and I can't kill ANYONE in the water in 2Fort.

Downside is accidentally tap your taunt button and you fucking explode.
That's extremely situational, though- very few maps have considerable amounts of water, and if you're changing your loadout to account for it swapping out the flaregun for the shotgun is a much better move.
It IS extremely situational, but it is ALSO a situation. :buddy:
shovel is great when you don't want to grief your medic I've seen soldiers use their equalizer when they're ubered, that's just hilarious and they don't even understand why
I think the equalizer should decrease the soldier's passive rocketjump resistance. It sort of helps the equalizer do it's job but it makes jocket jumping for travel less effective.

True melee fights, you're stuck with your melee and whatever tertiary may help.(disguise case/cloak, Razorback, Sandvich, Kritz taunt/Medic regen, etc.) Even more situational, I know, but if you're going to get into a true melee fight you oughtta not be a dick and use the regular axe or just accept your -50% damage and hope they suck. Which they most often do, because nobody ever melee fights anymore.
One time I killed someone with the Equalizer but forgot I had it equipped and taunted. Due to my death we had nobody defending the last cap on Granary and the enemy won :saddowns:
It would be damn nice if the EQ didn't crit. I wouldn't miss crits on the thing, it feels weird when you just instakilled someone with the weapon made for kamikaze when you're not even at half health.
That and the fact that the crit when at real low hp actually does more damage than a backstab. Wtf.
Backstab is an instant kill, no matter what health. I could use sm_sethealth 5000000 on myself and I'd still be an instant kill target for a backstab.
Really? I swear to god I read somewhere that the knife only did 450 on a back stab, which is clearly enough to kill any player in the game. Rated informative.
Backstab does 3x current health I believe.
Backstab does 3x current health I believe.
I backstabbed a heavy and it did 1050. I can believe that.
Backstab is an instant kill, no matter what health. This one guy had noclip, invisibility, and a shitload of overheal health. He was spawn camping with a sentry over the top of RED spawn and I cloaked out as a Spy, jumped on his head in mid-air (he was in noclip) and backstabbed him. Quite possibly the most victorious moment one can have.
i don't like the equalizer stupid soldjers keep on KILLING me when they get on low health in melee fightsssssssssssssssss
That's the point.
the point sucks horse dicks
Don't melee fight when they have the Equalizer, it is intended to trump people in melee battles dip shit.
what else am i supposed to do.
Don't melee fight them, it's real simple logic here, like not running into a known enemy sentry nest.
Um, shoot 'em? The soldier runs at an average speed, you just have to keep your goddamn distance unless you're going for melee yourself. If retreating, make sure you don't run into any obstructions that would slow you down enough for a EQ-ing Soldier to hit you. And pray you don't get lag. Atleast it isn't as annoying as the Demoman targe - granted, that's hard to aim and easy to avoid, but it's still more annoying to dodge and avoid than any other class (besides Spy) in melee combat.

That's why you can't kill a DR Spy with a backstab unless he's at 1 HP.

Actually, you can. The DR doesn't nullify that much damage, if you get backstabbed and trigger your DR, you get, I think, 1 extra backstab before you're susceptible to a backstab death. The backstab does do over 1k damage, though, this I know. I've given people, and seen people get, Iron Kurtain off of JUST a backstab. It's a little bizarre. Edit: I mean, obviously a backstab is an inta-kill, but I KNOW it'll deal over 1K damage to a Heavy at full/overhealed health.
i love the equalizer for a reason: *Peaceful day at near a always scoped sniper* *CRICK**CRICK* BLAM.
A Soldier with the Equalizer is pretty fucking terrifying. I think of it as "Every shot you make that doesn't kill him gives him a better chance of killing you." So nowadays I just turn tail and run rather than letting him get close unless I'm sure I can take him out or I figure that I might as well try since he's moving fast enough to catch up to me anyway. On topic though... I don't think the problem is that the Equalizer is overpowered, it's just that there's no real reason to use the Shovel once you've got the pickaxe. It's kinda like the Bonesaw/Ubersaw dilemma, only worse this time around because the Equilizer is so crazy useful. So, yeah, I do believe it needs a nerf to make it more of an alternate. Here's my suggestion, up for discussion: any Soldier wielding the Equilizer either gets a reduction in the amount they can be Overhealed or a complete removal of their ability to be Overhealed. This would limit the Soldier's options and make using the Equilizer more situational.
Equalizer is GREAT against Eyelander demos
I hate finally getting a Demoman to melee fight you, and just when he's losing fair and square, he lays down 3 stickies and kills all of us. I don't get the point, he gets one for killing me. :arghfist::frown:
No, crits should be removed for ALL weapons.
n00b. Play with some TFbots and you'll get better.
