Oops, I'm late to a thread on something I know all about. Anyway yeah, ask Steam Support about it. They have no problem throwing the low violence switch on your account. Make sure you mention the entire Orange Box and not just TF2 or HL2. They should reply within a couple days after each message. And just a word of advice: BACK UP YOUR FAVORITED SERVERS IF YOU HAVE ANY. Yes, this means ALL Source games. What they will do when they respond is tell you that they have turned off low violence and in order to activate it you need to go into the Steam folder and delete everything except steamapps and steam.exe. (DO NOT do this right now; this is only to reset Steam and reload all assets on your account.) What I've sadly forgotten to do three times already is back up my favorited servers, so let me tell you how before you make the same mistake: Go into your Steam folder and look for the config folder. Go in there and find serverbrowser.vdf. Copy that to somewhere else like your desktop. Once they flip the low violence switch, give you the instructions, and Steam starts up again, throw serverbrowser.vdf back into the newly-created config folder and restart Steam again. And remember, if you miss low violence mode's lovely visuals, you can always ask them to change it back. :v:
Or use the -sillygibs switch, it should work on pure servers as well.
