royzo, you and your modder friends need to upload hat-making tutorials.
yes
yah i know I did it before he said he'd pay me ;)
Royzo, you and your modder friends need to upload hat-making tutorials.
This. I can model, I can extract stuff from tf2, but I have no idea how to convert it into source format again.
I wish my eyelander axe didn't look so crap. I'd submit that otherwise.
Gave you a disagree. I love the axe.
I've never exported as an OBJ before. Does any of this matter?
so anybody have links to any god tuts?
I wonder if VALVe will let me re-create the Tough Guy's Toque as an Engineer hat...
So why is everyone looking for tutorials lately now that it's official, I'm offended that you didn't contributed when it was all about candy and model replacements.
I think people are more excited now that it can be a permanent part of the game for everyone. Though I will admit the candy was a good incentive.
So why is everyone looking for tutorials lately now that it's official and money, I'm offended that you didn't contributed when it was all about candy and model replacements.
I would make an avatar but the prospect of getting a hat you made in put in game and the fact that they give the hat to you is just too good to resist.
Once exams end I still gotta finish... Then I shall submit it as the best joke shield ever!
So why is everyone looking for tutorials lately now that it's official and money, I'm offended that you didn't contributed when it was all about candy and model replacements.
ive been asking for help since about 3 threads ago just nobody has ever tried
We should get a "Custom Token" for crafting community items.
Okay, for testing purposes I re-formatted the 'Springy Eyes' from my Party Shop Pack and submit it successfully. Didn't take much more than 10 minutes, I'll be sending them the rest soon, possibly after some optimalisation (800 poly limit and all that).
We should get a "Custom Token" for crafting community items.
Considering how Valve said that you'd get a free copy of your item for making it, that should be enough. Though a special version of your item would be nice, with a nice special color or name. All though, custom tokens wouldn't actually be a bad idea if it was done right. Just use it in a recipe, and you'd be guaranteed to receive a community-made item. Quiet the nifty idea you got there.

Everyone's spree was halted by the 800 tri limit
Everyone's spree was halted by the 800 tri limit
Mine not so much, only the samurai helmet was over, the others were hovering around 800-900 tris :P
What exactly is a tri?
What exactly is a tri?
They're triangles, and they fit together to make the full model. If you have more it looks smoother but for a game you want to optimize it.
ive been asking for help since about 3 threads ago just nobody has ever tried
It's not about asking for help, it's about helping yourself. Google it. It's not hard to type in "3dsmax beginner tutorials", then "custom models for HL2". But I spose if you can't do that, you won't have the brain power to make a cube :P Don't mind my harshness, but I've learnt to not rely on people for help, cos everyone's a jerk like that :D
They're triangles, and they fit together to make the full model. If you have more it looks smoother but for a game you want to optimize it.
Out of curiousity does 3ds max have a tri counter tool so I can check how many the shield has?
This whole thread should be put into the tf2 mod contest.
Everyone's spree was halted by the 800 tri limit
The odd thing about that is some of Valve's hats go past that limit. Here's an example:
Out of curiousity does 3ds max have a tri counter tool so I can check how many the shield has?
Sure does, hit the number 7 on your keyboard, that'll bring up the counter. By default it won't show tris though, so the top left of your perspective view, right click and goto properties, then... I think it's the display tab, it's not hard to miss.
Out of curiousity does 3ds max have a tri counter tool so I can check how many the shield has?
Yes. Right click on your viewport name>Configure>Statistics>check Triangle count. Then hit '7' in the viewport or check 'Show Statistics in Active View'.
Out of curiousity does 3ds max have a tri counter tool so I can check how many the shield has?
I think you can apply an optimization modifier, but it probably sucks on complex shapes. Disregard this.
I think you can apply an optimization modifier, but it probably sucks on complex shapes.
It sucks on even simple shapes as well.
Time to make a hat, if only I had any hat Ideas...
