Ignore this guy. Bad advice, sorry.

Yeah I don't really know what I'm talking about I just said it because I knew you'd all correct me if I was wrong anyway.
You know what we really need? The one weapon that's had like no new models or skins, ever.
Someone needs to make a really cool looking flare gun. Maybe like some weird abstract model or something.
Edit:

Yes. Remodel flare as a laser. :D
"Surly Soda Jerk (or) Malt Shop Shortstop" has been successfully submitted. Right now it's my only hat under 800 polys. Tomorrow, I'll do two or three more.

good, it fits tf well.
hope valve accept it :)
Awesome.

Except for the whole 800 polygons thing.
Nice to see Valve further embracing the modding community, I would certainly like to see some of the stuff I've seen in the emporiums, in game, the 800 tri limit seems slightly harsh though.
Ok, I really want to make a custom hat. But I don't know where to start.
So far all I have is a basic shape done in 3DSmax.

And that's all I have done.
I really want to finish this, but don't know what to do next.

His top hat!
[editline]10:31PM[/editline]
just make it black with that skull and crossbones and that feather.
It should replace the scotsmans stovepipe or Demo's Gibus.

That would be a really cool hat to make, I just need to know how.
I need the help of a talented modder.
sumbit the hats to valve, i love your hats!
I've been wanting to bother with learning to 3D for a while, but now I have an incentive.
...But I'm afraid I'll quit after 5 minutes in the program :(
It would be awesome to have this modeled for the spy.

Still waiting on a followup reply, but Robin seemed to hint that the community items would be available via the common random drop and not the rare. I'd share the e-mail, but it has alot of personal info on it (was sent inquiring about a position at Valve Software), and like I said, was very vague. If I get a followup reply I will post it with haste!

Definitely. He's been my Steam Avatar since Steam Communities launch!
Oh man, but I want to flaunt how I have the new item before other people do :(

Mouse 1 to shoot Sandviches for your friends, and, on an unfortunate note, enemies. If you, a friend, or an enemy walks over a shot sandvich, you/he/she/they will regenerate health. As an alt fire, you can hold Mouse 2 to shoot sandviches into your mouth, but don't hold down the button for too long or you'll explode stunning nearby enemies and friends.

You can flaunt how you made that item :P
I wonder how many polygons that Tavish the Black hat had.

2400, mostly in the horns.
Well Emporium Team, this is it. Time to get famous and take names.
How to activate modeling symmetry in 3ds max?:byodood:
I wanna make a medic hat, a pyro hat or a spy hat. Any good ideas going around?
How to activate modeling symmetry in 3ds max?:byodood:
Can you elaborate? You need to know how to add a symmetry modifier or just center it properly?
Can you elaborate? You need to know how to add a symmetry modifier or just center it properly?
I tried applying the symmetry modifier, but it didn't do anything. I just wanted to use it to simplify modeling symmetrical things. :(

Is the lightbulb on? If it is then are you sure your object isn't already symmetrical?

Yes, the lightbulb is on. I apply the modifier and continue to model, but it doesn't apply symmetry, as in, it doesn't automatically edit the opposite side.

I don't think you can work with symmetry on. You have to be on editable poly/mesh/etc to actually edit the model. If you want to save the symmetry, just right click the model and convert to editable poly.
I don't think you can work with symmetry on. You have to be on editable poly/mesh/etc to actually edit the model.
I am on "editable poly". So there is no way to model with symmetry/mirror on, like in XSI/Softimage? If not, that is a huge let down.
..Wait, you know what I'm talking about, right? I want to be able to just edit 1 side of my model, and have the other side auto-update to mirror/match it.
