Gmax isn't really good (it's horribly out of date), but it will show you how nice 3ds Max's interface is.

Alternatively, a 3ds Max 2010/2009 trial will cost you nothing, and I think it's fully functional. Dunno what you'll do when it expires but you'll figure something out I'm sure.

It is a fully functioning 30 day trial. I'd recommend reading up on it first though. It's awfully confusing and by the time you understand what's going on, you've lost a week. So, read up first and understand, at least the basic layout before you install.
