I'm going to go out on a limb here. I thought about the role of the class and its appearances and how when you look at them you can instantly perceive their style type and what they do. If you walked into a room with just 1 class, you could instantly tell how they will approach you or how they would speak/act/etc. At first glance of the Spy, he is visually a top-notch gentlemen. You can see that he is of a finer life compared to the other classes. But the mask keeps him concealed, leaving the person to question who he really is. The hood and scarf go very well with her look, and the glasses help. If the glasses are viewable into, I believe she would lose some of the mysterious look to the female spy. Your original concept art portrays a very heavy dark lens, which I believe helps conceal her image. The hood seems to be at too much of a point at the back. Have you considered rounding the back to keep the smooth look that male Spy portrays in his mask? I think you should keep the points created from the glasses in the hood, but rounding it seems to give her a more sleek look, if you will.
I always have liked that your models don't cater to all the horny 13-year-olds of TF2. I am looking at you "sexy" pyro skins. Anyway can't wait to see this one done. :)
I really want a female model for sniper and it should be Sniper Wolf from MGS series. It's effing awesome.

Any progress so far on the Model?
Any progress so far on the Model?
Yeah, here's my progress from tonight. I added detail to the boots and legs, tweaked her face a little, resized the sunglasses (though I want to mess with them some more), and did some variations on the scarf contour based on suggestions posted above. Also sorry about the rough looking scarf, it's late and I wanted to just get a general idea before going to bed. I do like the scarf conforming to her head more from the front view in particular, and the side view definitely matches the male Spy's silhouette, though maybe at the cost of some of its own visual interest. I'm feeling a compromise.
That's a neat looking silhouette ya got there, pretty distinctive and still a little familiar to the original spy. Really looking forward to the release...
I hope Valve adds these models into the game in a massive update.

Wow, the chin looks really pointy. Reminds me of the original spy, but it makes her look a little bit like a man.
fucking awesome
Quick question. Are you going with the pea coat or the open, belted coat. Or both?
Wow, the chin looks really pointy. Reminds me of the original spy, but it makes her look a little bit like a man.
The chin is definitely pointy, but none of the TF2 characters have perfect features. Not all women have small chins or soft features, and the angular facial structure is to reinforce the archetype of the character. Though, if I were to make it less pointy, it would be more broad, squarish, and probably appear MORE manly. I wonder if what you mean isn't that it's too prominent?
I think the brim on the glasses should maybe be a bit thicker, they look a bit weird. Do you plan to have them rounded later on as well? I feel they look too sharp compared to the examples you posted, perhaps you're aware of this though.

So I'm not bothering with too much detail until I decide what exactly I want for them.
Well, it might be a good idea to take the "sunglasses-as-a-hat" idea into consideration. Maybe they should replace the camera beard, since that would look...odd, to say the least. She looks awesome so far, I can't wait to see the final product! EDIT: By the way, who's doing the sounds? Have you got anyone for that yet?

The sunglasses are the main feature that hides her face, so having that absent most of the time would defeat its purpose. I did model her her head and hair underneath the scarf just in case I end up doing something with it, but it's a short cut to prevent clipping. But I dunno, I think the camera beard might be awesome. Still no confirmed voice, though some people have expressed interest. I'll try to get samples up for people to hear and make suggestions on different options as soon as I can.
Keep the glasses as her original model. That's like taking the Spy's mask and removing it because you could add different masks. It keeps both the male and female spy hidden, to get the mysterious look, while keeping TF2's art style.

The most important thing is that all the details and accessories keep the theme and function intact by default. All the removable items should just be fun extra stuff, but none of it should be required to create the look.

His forearms increase in size a bit down, this more due to his sleeves being big rather than to imply that he's a ambidextrous fapping champion. I think this would make your character's silhouette match the original one's better, and it would make it fit into the TF2 style better.

Or have you not fully decided on which to choose? I think the pea coat will work if you mess with some of the proportions a bit, but the open coat could work as well. I do think that the open coat seems a bit more fitting to her. The pea coat seems to have a "mad scientist" look to me, while the open coat is more of a luxury style suit that fits more of the Spy/finer life theme. A little less revealing might work, or the closing part of the suit could be a bit higher up. Que absurdly rough example
I do also personally like it open more. It reminds me more of Spy's suit, although I do think she could spare a little less cleavage :O Perhaps give her shirt under there. You don't have to make her look like a frigid librarian, however I think she should look like someone who wants to look professional and stylish at the same time.
I do also personally like it open more. It reminds me more of Spy's suit, although I do think she could spare a little less cleavage :O Perhaps give her shirt under there. You don't have to make her completely frigid, but make her look "stylish and professional".
Less cleavage would work better, but putting something over it would seem a bit odd. It would have to differ greatly from the Spy's tie, since she is trying to have her own unique look. How does it look if the hood is tucked under the open coat? We have seen it tucked under the pea coat, but how does it look with an open collar?

Well, I think I could probably pull off the open coat version somehow, but my main problem with it that I just can't get her proportions worked out in a natural way with the shoulder issue. Proportions need to be exaggerated, and it feels like her figure needs to be exaggerated too much in order to compensate for the shoulders, yet the Spy is a lanky character. As far as fashion is concerned though, I totally agree that the first costume "makes more sense", though with the pea coat I can steer her more into Jackie Kennedy territory. I'm not too worried about the coat resembling a labcoat once it's colored, though I see where you're coming from on that. I'm not sure how the scarf tucked under a coat like that would work, never heard of anyone wearing it like that so I'm not too keen on the idea. I also want very badly to avoid the "business suit" corporate look, which she is now bordering on.
Add this thingie to your other coat and it might work better :O It would make her resemble male Spy more and it would make her coat look less plain. [editline]09:47PM[/editline] Ps, notice how big her sleeves are :P?

[editline]09:47PM[/editline] Ps, notice how big her sleeves are :P?
I've been thinking about adding a big collar, but I think it might cause too much visual noise with the scarf hanging down concentrated in that one area. I'd probably want to draw that idea, since it would be a lot of work. And I totally wanted to give her those 3/4 length wide sleeves, it was in my original concept. But I was warned that the wrists rotate like crap when you rig it and it's better to hide them.
II did model her her head and hair underneath the scarf just in case I end up doing something with it, but it's a short cut to prevent clipping.
Yeah, too bad someone already confirmed that you cannot add a default hat to a model (in Alia's previous Female Spy thread) so you could make it more like the other classes that come with default hats (sniper, soldier, engie, scout). Kinda sad that all that work would go unseen.
