Decals for the painting, maybe?
i cant wait for a bunch of people to put ponies and nametag their taunts all sorts of weird things
"My portrait of twilight sparkle check out my deviantart pls dont hate"
love the taunt though, looking great, hopefully people wouldnt abuse it too much...

It's improving, but I think people are right in that you may want to take another stab (pun intended) at it. It looks a little speckled atm.
Use references :D Don't be afraid to just dig into the tf2_textures_dir.vpk file with cgfscape if you don't already.

There are a lot of interesting things here, there's actually shading baked into the textures for the revolver's handle.
Personally, I prefer the desaturated wood color over the reference's wood.
I guess me and you are just weird then.
That said, I'll cook up some more intense wood colors and maybe some metal tints, see how they go, not like it's hard work to do that much, at least. Especially with Flubbman off doing the actual work.
Could someone fix the TF2 HP SFM player models, i have noticed a small bug
which is from a distance, the scout's left hand starts stretching out like some kind of god knows what and for it to be compatable with the Pool Party, and the new community taunts.

should make it a rule to only reference valve made items and textures, things like the L'Etranger will only give you bad ideas on how to poorly convey shape and depth using too soft brushes and far too bright colors
generally if you want to replicate something you should go to the source and not copy a copy
I never noticed how ugly the ambassador looks.

I would certainly hope they would eventually use the animations, especially considering they asked us to update the model with LODs and numerous other small things a long time back, not to mention that the animations are basically made directly for the High Noon's model, even straight down to using the bolt on the side that we added last minute because we had forgotten about it in development.

What you've got here is an excellent design, but the concept is closer in comparison to the high noon than the reference image you have there. I would hope you would attempt to further it more from the high noon, but there's never enough revolver rifles so its nice to see someone try it once in a while.

The more I look at them the more I like the techniques used on the revolver and amby. L'etranger feels a little too 'clean' for me.
A taunt where the Spy does tricks with his knife while drawing a breath from his cig would be cool.

just have him turn around and the easel be behind him when the taunt starts
[editline]20th March 2015[/editline]
oh and have the canvas jump offo f the easel for a few frames to show a momentum transfer before it settles back, at which point spy starts painting
maybe have the paintings only be half finished to make it seem like he's continuing on them instead of suddenly having a fully-done painting in the middle of the battlefield and still painting on it for whatever reason, this could also be achieved for decals with some clever alpha channels

considering there's animations to fit the proportions are bound to be similar to yours, that's like saying any of the spy revolvers are more similar to the stock one than their various irl counterparts

I was referring to things more along the lines of the similar color schemes and scope shapes as opposed to the over all general shape. No they aren't identical but they are very similar with the black metal and dark brown wood, if for instance the metal would have been grey/light grey I probably wouldn't have said anything. I'm well aware of how models have to be made to fit animations, either way I'm sure yours will turn out nice in the end.
Would someone be okay with texturing my beard? I've been trying for 3 hours to make it look like the concept and this is the best that I can do

without a normal map (and ambient occlusion?) it's gonna look relatively flat either way, though a nicer texture would be pretty good too

If you are trying to show off a very red item I wouldn't put it on an equally red background or environment. It makes it very hard to read the images.
Alright, folks. I opened up photoshop and spent 5 minutes playing with filters. Here's the results, voting time while Flubbman fixes the model up a smidge.

Vote [IMG]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/IMG] for number #3, tangy, light beech and a chrome alloy.
Vote for number #4, solid, honest oak and an aged finish.

I remember in the picture you showed us, the barrel's colour was different.
[t]http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/xx151/gizmologist1/ieqyo6.jpg[/t]
It was more brown. Maybe you can give it a slight red/blue tint?

I believe this is simply due to that image being of a old and somewhat rusted gun. After all, the PTRS was used during the second world war, they're very old weapons.
For comparison, here's a picture of one in slightly better condition:

The whole thing is made of milled steel.
Well then it's awfully bland at the front. Maybe you should attempt the rusted barrel anyway? I think it looks good. Besides, the weapon has no foregrip and I feel like without that extra bit of colour the front's gonna be a bit boring colour-wise.
just checked game blanamado after like 2 months and found out that one of my firs skins I made like 4 years ago was deleted for quality control...
it's a shame too...
I was also trying to formulate a solid idea for a Medic taunt of some kind, but I can't think of one that would look good..
So far my plan involves -experiment- .. That's as far as I've gotten.
One idea I had was to have the Medic take out a syringe and inject it into his hand, making it expand to an enormous size. He would then face his opponent and give them a massive middle finger, before laughing and shaking off the swelling.

Perhaps, although all things considered, it's just a rifle at the end of the day. And it already has quite a lot of model detail up the front.
Compared with the other rifles, none of those really have much colour variance on the barrel, either, hell, the default rifle is literally just a gray tube, and nobody complains about that:

As long as I'm blabbering I love the way this thing looks, I think its shape is great
