The next thing I would suggest is to get a professional SFM to make your promos. Think of it like advertising a product for sale, one would want to make the packaging great so as to capture the eyes of consumers. It's not that expensive too, most are given 1-10% in revenue sharing.

I'd actually really like a mod release of this to replace the pistol.
It does still need a little more work though. Why is the barrel filled in?
There is still some things you can change.
- Make the laser sight an attachment, not a part of the gun itself. Or you can just ditch the laser sight.
- Make the inside of the barrel hollow
- Like someone said, an improved texture and phong mask. Wouldn't hurt to ask for help, you know?
- Make the gun a bit more longer.

List of changes:
-Added gold lines at tip of barrel
-added a grip plate on handle
He also was not fond of the original wood strokes.
What does the emporium think?
Dont bother with the grip too much, having it just wood is fine.
If you're having troubles with doing the brush strokes and details take a look at the grips of the sniper rifle or the grenadelauncher, its mostly a single colour with strokes giving it different hues and edgewear to roughen it up.
Taking a look how the festive stock revolver is done texture wise could also benefit you.

The SFM render's not too shabby either. I'd recommend turning the tonemapscale down in the camera properties, and adding some lightkits so the gun doesn't blend into the background as much.
using focal distance and aperture would also greatly benefit the render, but I've found simply doing a lens blur in photoshop produces better results.

Also with your image with scout + engy holding it, back up way far away holding down S for a couple seconds then zoom in using the mouse wheel. You'll find it will look a TON better with minimal depth of field going on.

Went ahead and did subtle wear and tear on the edges, mimicking the style of the sniper rifle.

I don't know, but i sort of feel like the golden parts could use some more saturation, because (at least for me) they don't really look like gold, more like brass (and even that is usually brighter).
What do you, guys, think?

those pictures are from blender's viewport, they don't have the gold cube map.
look at this instead to determine if it is saturated enough. Do remember that I made it quite saturated, and it was met with dissaproval.

I believe the disapproval wasn't because of the colour, but because of the australium shine being too stronk.

Okay, so for the final texture, I decided to have the wood strokes, but in a very low opacity, with the wood wear and tear, to satisfy the nearly equal votes in the 2 choices.
