The blade's texture doesn't look right. The handle's wood could be a little more desaturated and phong mask darkened. Most wooden weapons I've seen have either no phong or the phong is barely visible.
itemtest in game is broken. when i try to load a custom model, the game crashes. Anyone know how to fix this?

Could you provide a little more insight? What are you trying to load, and in what way? Have you done anything different to what you normally do?

Personally I think the skin between the pants' ankle sleeves and shoes should just be sock colour/texture. It looks weird and out of proportion, at least in those pictures.

When i try to load ANY custom model, like when i click load test items, the game freezes for a few seconds and then closes. I've tried validating the games files, changing the class for the item, changing the model loaded, changing the map, but nothing works. I'm wondering if its because of the prerelease setting, but it hasnt given me problems before.

i had the same problem. make sure you use the zip and have ALL THE FILES compiled with the compiler.
It still crashes on me if i only use the mdl.

That certainly helps! Although I think it could use some tinkering still. Ideally it'd be cool to have some sort of TF2 specific thing worked into the design.
So yeah, Source 2 is free to use. If and when TF2 gets a source 2 update, modding will be a lot easier :).

Didn't the SteamPipe conversion break a lot of mods too? If it's for the better of the game I'd be fine with it.

The only thing steampipe "broke" was the way mods were installed, even then it never really broke because the loose files system was just moved over to custom.
